About a week and a half ago I went to the health food store with the same question plus heavy stress. A woman recommended Rhodiola force 300 for stress and focus, Fish oil gel caps and B-complex. Nothing ever has worked for me before but these three things are really helping me, and honestly I am shocked. I am feeling better than I have in a long time and getting allot more accomplished.
You can email me if you have any questions.

There are several things that come to mind. Often times when we are under stress illness, family death--it can make us "spacey"--difficult to focus and problem solve. forgetting things. When first my dad died and then my mom, I went out into "La-La Land" for quite awhile with symptoms similar to yours. a new business can be very stressful. I don't think you are "losing it" you sound very sane and logical to me, and I think you will come through just fine. I find when I am forgetful and confused--simplifying my life helps a lot. Taking the phone off the hook, listening to CD's or tapes that have music mixed with nature sounds like streams or ocean, wind chimes. Turn off the TV for a few days and be kind and gentle with yourself. Just smiling at yourself in the mirror when you get up in the morning and saying something like "today i feel relaxeds and am thinking clearly" said morning after morning can begin to have a beneficial effect. I find, that for myself, having a religious faith and praying is calming. I like to read Psalms because it talks about a person who was really going through it and how it turned out ok. Another factor to consider is nutrition--as we age we need B-vitamins more, especially if we are going through stressful times. B vitamins help with the nervous system and memory. See if a good vitamin B complex tablet each day doesn't help. Lastly, some adults are ADHD and this can be a factor in being confused--not knowing which way to turn because there are so many things that need to get done. It seems to me you are taking the right steps--seeking help and that's a good start g.f.o.!

It's been argued that Adult ADD is an excuse for laziness and is over-diagnosed. You need to decide for yourself if you're really genetically challenged (despite all efforts, you just don't have the juice to keep up) or just need to step it up.
If you are looking for motivational change; there are two formulas; CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) or meds or both. CBT is a scientific based therapeutic approach that will provide tools that you can use to continually motivate yourself to effectiveness with or without meds. If you go the med route; you'll be supplied with stimulants and antidepressants to help increase your focus and concentration chemically, by manipulating specific neurotransmitters that manage your ability to propagate.
Either way; you will be in good shape.... granted you have the right Dr's. If you live in NYC, I can refer you to a few good ones.
Cheers and good luck.

I know that this sounds strange but, It actually was scientifically proven that chewing gum can increase your memory and concentration skills. They tested it on three groups of students. One group didn't chew anything, another chewed gum, and the last made the chewing motion with their mouths. They all had to take a memory test and a concentration test and the group with the gum had the highest scores. Hope I could help.

Exercize will relieve some stress and boost up your seratonin levels. I find doing puzzles, games, and artwork helps my mind focus on something else and improves focus and concentration levels. Definitely watch your caffiene intake.
