hi, are you cleaning up the poop and pee in front of the dog? if you are it's like a game for your new puppy , they enjoy watching you clean up after them . you have to just take them outside if they make a mistake , clean up messes inside when your dog isn't around. make sure you clean up after him outside and tell him he's a good boy or a good girl. your dog will soon only go outside. also if your dog makes messes inside while your gone . like chewing things up or makeing some kind of other mess , don't clean it up in front of them and don't say a word about it when you see it . don't make a fuss . you'll see it really does work. good luck

Wow. Where to start. As has already been stated, you should NOT have a 4 week old puppy. They are WAY too young to be away from the mom and littermates!!!!!! You cannot house train a four week old pup. The mom is still "cleaning up" after puppies at that age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The puppy SHOULD NOT be eating Meow Mix. It is bad enough that a cat eats that. It is total crap food. Puppy Chow is just as bad. Go to the feed store, or a Petco or PetSmart and get a high quality food for small breed puppies.
Get the pup to a VET ASAP to make sure it was wormed and when to start vaccines. None have been given yet and I am sure it was not wormed or if it was, it was not done properly. No good breeder would sell a pup at that age. Do not give milk unless it is PUPPY FORMULA. No cow's milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

animal lover--- VERY WRONG. Anyway you just have to be consistent with the crate training. At first the dog will NOT want to go in the crate. He'll howl, cry, bark, and whine but DON'T left him out. He will stop after a awhile. Put a shirt that smells like your sent in the crate and that may work to calm him down. Also try putting the crate in a warm, comfortable place where he can see or hear people. If you left him out it will teach him to whine every time he's in the crate. You'll probably have to usher him or place him in yourself. We've had our 8 month old pit mix for 2 months already and he likes his crate during the day and sleeps near/in/on top of it, but come bedtime he has to be lifted into the crate.Make the pup sleep/eat in the crate so that he learns that it's a good place. Also while he's in the crate give him treats and toys. Never leave him in longer than needed though just like when you're busy or sleeping. When you take him out to go to the bathroom don't bring him in until he does both. He'll get the message eventually. Also when he does go outside praise him and give him a treat. Oh and if he's "going" in the same spot in the house it's because he smells his "accident spot" there and thinks that's his bathroom spot. Try spraying down the areas with a VERY smelly cleaner. Our pup still sometimes has accidents ,but for the most part he had it down by like the end of the first week we had him. Try to take him out whenever you see him giving "warning signs" such as sniffing the ground a lot or squatting. At first it may have to be about every 2 hours. Also walk him about 45 minutes each day. Good luck! If you have more questions just edit your post and I'll help you out. :]

First of all, if that puppy is only a month old, it should still be with its mother. It is too young to eat on its own - it still needs to be nursing.
Now, if you have had this new puppy for a month, that is another situation. First of all, find a way to keep it out of the cat food - cat food is not good for dogs. They have different nutritional requirements.
On the food, and assuming your puppy is more than eight weeks old, you have to remember that very tiny dogs have very tiny teeth and not very powerful jaws. A German Shepherd puppy can handle kibble that a chihuahua cannot. You need to go to a Pet Food store - not the grocery store - and buy a brand that is made for miniature dogs. There is no one size fits all food when it comes to animals.

One month old WOW! Usually pups don't leave the mama until they are 6-8 weeks old. The pup is probably not completely done being weaned. I suggest you get some puppies milk. They sell this at any pet store and I've seen it at Wal-mart. You will also need a bottle to feed with. If your pup doesn't take the bottle you can try putting it in a very shallow dish. Please be careful at this age pups can slip and drown if the liquid level is high. Be sure to warm the milk. Just around luke warm. Remember when a pup is nursing the mamas milk is warm. After about two weeks. Introduce the food you are using. Mix this with the milk. I would use 3 parts milk 1 part food and slowly increase the food as she gets use to the food. Its very important that you keep on eye on her for signs of dehydration. You can tell my gently pinching the scruff of her neck and pulling up. If the skin doesn't go back quickly she may be dehydrated. This is VERY dangerous and you may need to seek a vet to rehydrate. Than again the situation may not be that serious. As for the potty training. You need to set a schedule for your pup. When she wakes up from naps, finishes playing or eating take her out. If she potty's praise her profusely. Rub her and play with her. If she doesn't do anything just stay calm and neutral. Please don't hit or punish the pup for accidents. Especially if you notice it after the act. I've successfully potty trained with a water bottle with beans in it. I keep it handy and when I notice a squatting or if the pup is in the act I vigorously shake the bottle and say NO! I than immediately take the pup outside. Once again if she goes successfully outside a ton of praise and good dogs. Lastly patience is key. Your pup will have accidents and you will get upset. Just relax and keep in mind that she will be potty trained one day. Remember also to clean up any potty soiled areas with a good disinfectant. If she can smell her mess chances are she may go on that spot once again. Good luck!

If I understand you right, the puppy is just a month old???? It should be with its mom still, nursing. Mom would be taking care of the bathroom business. Who sold you a month old pup?? The puppy probably does not have any teeth. It cannot eat dry food. You will have to soak it in water to get it to eat. Your puppy has about a 50% chance of dying from hypoglycemia. It has to eat often, maybe 6 times a day or more. This puppy should be with its mother.

For potty training it just takes time...here is a method I suggest and if you use it...be consistent w/it and use it everytime. I think you might be confusing the dog by giving him so many options (porch, cat box etc).
It's best to catch him in the act...when you do firmly tell him "NO" then directly take him outside. That's it...just be consistent and eventually he will learn. I'd recommend giving him a small puppy treat everytime he goes outside where you want him to which will reinforce the behavior. It takes time but he'll come around.
I also don't recommend cat food for a dog...if he's hungry he'll eat...always remember you are in control not the dog!!!
Congrats on your new bundle of joy!!!

well what i did when i first got my puppy every 2 hours or so we would take him outside but before we opened the door we would make him ring a bell that is tied to the door handle. After he wnet poddy outside we would give him a treat or something he liked cheerios. If he went inside we would put him in his naughty crate. after a while he just started ringing the bell by himself and we took him out then.

You just have to be president. Weather you do the paper or back porch, you can't change things. You are confusing him. If he is only 4 weeks old he probably is just getting in his teeth. Don't change his food, this is hard on a dog of any age. Just moistion it, till you know he has his baby teeth. Remember consistency is the answer.

I agree with everyone else that commented already. One month is WAY too young to be taken away from it's mother. It will probably die or be very strange all it's life as it won't even know the basics of being a dog. Too bad there are such incredibly ignorant selfish people in the world.
