I would hang onto it as a keepsake, knowing that if I was in dire straits I would be able to sell it in the future.

It really depends upon how smart you are and how much you need money just now. As with most antiques, it will increase in value the longer you hang onto it. It will appreciate. (Gain in value) So, if you pop that into a safe deposit box for safe keeping, in ten years it will be worth quite a bit more if you can do without the money it might bring right now. I would encourage you to do that - put it in the safe deposit box for awhile - right now and forget you have it unless you need to buy a new car or create a new addition on your home or something like that.

See how much you can get for it and you may decide not to sell it. If it is worth a lot of money and you need the money maybe you can auction it off and it will go to someone who will cherish it. Your relative gave it to you and if you were in need I'm sure they would understand.

I say keep it. If the relative is still alive, spend as much time as you can with them. I lost my uncle in march and I never got to spend time with him. So keep it. When family give you things that are special to them and want to pass it on to you, it is priceless. Also, you might regret it later if you sell it.

If it has significance for you, or could have significance for your children, then keep it. If other relatives may have feelings, offer them first refusal. Otherwise, if you don't like it, sell it.
Bear in mind if you are a young person that you may care more about this item when you get older. There are many adults who kick themselves for having tossed away historical items that they wish they kept.

You must decide. If you need the money then your relative wouldn't have minded you selling it. If it's sentimental.. keep it for your children one day.. but as I said you must decide.

I agree with MIZZ B.
And if you don't sell it, you'll probably get burgled and never see it again anyway. Unless you're lucky enough to find it again at CASH CONVERTERS, in which case you'll have to buy it back.

well it depends if you are going to wear it for any occasion...if you like it and it matches with something you wear then yes...but have it valued...if it's worth alot then sell it if you are short of money...maybe you could keep it for your wedding day, that's if your not married already....or just keep it for one of you kids (daughter) the older it is the more value it has

if it is a memory keep it, if not, sell it for the most you can get, unless time will make it worth more, then save for a latter time to sell.
