I have had plantar fasciitis in my left foot for the past 2 months and have been getting treatment for it. A week ago I fell down 5 stairs due to weakness in that foot. Now I have really sharp pain when I walk alot on the foot. Pain is centered outside of foot, in front ankle. Podiatrist said it is either a bruised bone or a sprain. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

The weakness, and pain in your foot could both be cause by a nerve root problem. "Sharp pain" is usually a sign of a nerve being compresses/irritated the outside part of your foot is the S1 nerve. this nerve also controls the Peroneous Longus and Brevis on the outside of the foot they control your foot moving to the outside. Also if you have problems walking on your toes because of the weakness this is also a sign of an S1 nerve problem. I recommend seeing a chiropractor for this as they have the most experience with nerve root problems because they deal with the spine.

An x-ray would tell you whether there's a fracture or not, but if you'd had that or have other reason to be sure its just a sprain or bruised bone you may just have to wait it out while being careful not to "re-do" it (especially if its a sprain, which can be "re-done" easily).

People are usually told to put ice on such injuries, but I don't know if there's any point a week later (unless it makes it feel better). Just be careful about how you move it, and try to put as little weight on it as possible (by walking carefully and being careful when using stairs). If you have any shoes that would reduce the chances of "re-doing" it (say, leather shoes rather than sandals or a firmer running shoe rather than a soft, worn-out one) that may help the foot heal faster.

If you're out of your teens you could take a couple of aspirins to reduce any pain (but aspirin is said to have potentially serious, serious, side-effects for teenagers - and probably people of 21 or 22 or so). Ibubrofen is the next best thing (although I find aspirin is the most effective pain-reducer/reliever). Tylenol does nothing as far as I can tell.

Very often a person can sprain something and feel as if it has gotten almost back to good-as-new, and the person gets a little too careless with how he moves the injured part - and that's when re-doing an injury, sometimes so its worse than before, is likely to occur.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

You may have an injured ligament in your ankle joint, that could be causing the pain... You should massage your ankle when that happens, and dip your foot in warm water.
