There's a great site which allows you to upload a photo of your face and try on loads of different styles and hair colours so you can see what you'd look like with that cut.

I signed up today coz I'm in the same boat and its actually really effective so now I'm thinking of getting a asymmetric blonde do after playing around having hours of fun on that site!! Its about $14 or £7 to join which I thought was a bit cheeky but if you think how much mags are for just a few styles with models faces its not too bad. Or you could just email me - I don't mind giving u my password so u can try it out!! Also you can upload different photos so you could go in with a few friends and then all use it if u were being sneaky - as it allows you to upload different photos. Another good idea is to get a magazine like Hair or My hair etc they usually have lots of contemporary styles and advice on how easy/ practical they are. I always spend a while leafing thru the newsagents supply of hair mags and buy the one with the most potential hairstyles inside. Or just ask the salon for a consultation or some of their books - they usually love suggesting new styles and are good at picking cuts to suit people faces.
Make sure you feel really comfortable with what you ask for and don't let them talk you into anything - I always want a dramatic change because its more fun so I regret it if I come out with some same old, same old - but I have friends who are the opposite so pick one that you know will leave you smiling.

Just Google search 'hair styles'.
Be careful, though! I got a pic off the Internet for my hair, and now it looks SO bad. Remember, your face is different than the models! A cut can look fabulous on one person, and look terrible on another!

If your hairdresser knows you well and you feel confident with them, go a bit early and look through their mags and ask your stylist which haircut would suit your face and life style.
