You have TRAINED yourself to do this. The only way to stop it is to train yourself to go to bed at a decent hour...say midnight. Then you would be getting at least 6 hours sleep.

Maybe the reason you can't sleep is because you're drinking caffeinated drinks. Maybe you're watching too much TV or using the computer after 8:00pm. The reason you are able to stay up until 4 the next day and wake up at 6am is because your body has adjusted. The body has a natural time clock in the brain that can make us sleepy & wake up at the same time everyday...weird huh? But dude you are still young and need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep so that you are able to function. They say try going to bed by 10:00pm & wake up at 6am.

You are young and running off reserves, probably -- problem is, the reserves get lower with time and will take longer to recover.

You have also gotten into the HABIT of sleeping and living like this.

Make sure you quit caffiene.

( Warning - if you drink a lot of caffiene, you will experience withdrawals: headache, nausea and stomach ache. It stinks, but it's worth it.) I know it makes a huge difference in how I feel and sleep.

Try to get into a routine, that plans for your target time to sleep. Since you are a teen you should need between 8 and 10 hours to be rested. If you have to get up at six, plan to go to bed around nine or ten o'clock.

Make sure you have time to brush teeth and get into comfy sleep clothes (or undress - if that is comfy). Make sure your bed is tidy and clean - if it's messy or full of books - it's not comfy.

Get rid of the television, if you have one in your room. Studies have shown TV's in the room disrupt sleep.

Also try music that is soothing and has a bass sound to it. (classical is more for daytime, because it is higher pitched). The regular bass sound can help regulate your body systems. (Something like classic rock works well for my daughter.
Make sure your room temp is a little cooler than comfortable for skin. This way when you get in bed you will be comfy.

If it gets really cold where you live, then think about a warming blanket.

Drinking a cup of hot milk really does help, but I personally don't care for the taste.

Make sure you aren't hungry in the evening, by having a balanced supper sometime around six or seven.

This is a good time to take any medications you normally take in the evening as well.

Make sure you don't try to take naps in the day to try and "catch-up" - you will end up just perpetuating the cycle of staying up.

Whatever you are staying up doing during the wee hours of the night - Either re-schedule it for daytime, or cut waaay back on how many hours you spend doing it. (For example: It's great surfing all night, but you have to choose between being healthy and having surfing time.)

If these changes don't help (and you really have to try at them) then go to a doctor. you might have something about your metabolism that is revving you up.

There are meds that can help, --but at your age, you want to try and not take anything you can do without. So please try the other things first.

Your bio-rhythms sound a little off. It's part of a chemical system in your body that helps tell it when you need to sleep. Also, your brain may not be producing enough melatonin (the chemical that helps you sleep). Don't freak! Gradually try deliberately restructuring your sleep habits for an earlier time. Think of the most happy/pleasant thing that will make you go to sleep. If you keep having problems, see a doc for a cat scan of your brain. There's no pain. Take care of your body...it's the only one you've got.

You're a night owl: that means you operate better at night. I think this is the most common. You just have to try to stick to a sleeping schedule that works for you. You will probably always be somewhat out of it in the mornings, but you need to get enough sleep.

at school, you are pressurized to be awake and moving and on the ball so your body surpresses your tiredness and hides it from others. but this isnt a healthy lifestyle. 2 hours of sleep is not enough! you need at least 7. the tiredness will catch up with you eventually

You might need some sleep meds. Sleep meds can get you regulated and you do not have to use them permanently.
