Copied in toto from the reference website. The page also contains a translation into German:

""Arthur" or "The Decline and Fall of the British Empire"
Texte & Musik von Raymond Douglas Davies
Übersetzung von Joachim Gorsleben

Some Mother's Son
Some mother's son lies in a field
Someone has killed some mother's son today
Head blown up by some soldier's gun
While all the mothers stand and wait
Some mother's son ain't coming home today
Some mothers son ain't got no grave

Two soldiers fighting in a trench
One soldier glances up to see the sun
And dreams of games he played when he was young
And then his friend calls out his name
It stops his dream and as he turns his head

A second later he is dead

Some mother's son lies in a field
Back home they put his picture in a frame
But all dead soldiers look the same
While all the parents stand and wait
To meet their children coming home from school
Some mother's son is lying dead

Somewhere someone is crying
Someone is trying to be so brave
But still the world keeps turning
Though all the children have gone away

Some mother's son lies in a field
But in his mother's eyes he looks the same
As on the day he went away

They put his picture on the wall
They put flowers in the picture frame
Some mothers memory remains"

My head's above the wall
But my heart is in the shade
I cry down the phone to father
But he says "It's just a phase"

There was someone I used to know
Whose heart was full of joy
I'm going to try and find him, but
I've only seen him as a boy

A prisoner of my own mind
And I'm trying to find the key
I'm neck deep in my sorrows
Won't somebody save me?!

"Stick with where you are son
Then you know where you are
You've come such a long way"
But I don't feel I've come that far

"We're really very proud of you
Staying with what you know"
Your son's about to break your hearts
I'm sorry but it's time to go

I lived with you for two decades
In my book far too long
I'm off into the big bad world
I'll try hard to be strong

I was so long in your company
And I relied on you both too much
Your soldier's off to no-man's-land
Of course I'll be in touch

Once I thought I was the one,
Hoped that we would see it through.
Wanted so to give my love
And bring happiness to you.

So we tried and cried for years
But you knew that we were wrong.
We dwindled into friendship –
Who knew it’d last so long.

And I wish you every happiness
And I hope you find your dreams
And someone gives you what you want
And is everything he seems.
I hope you find you’re happy with
Some mother’s son.

*OR* (i found two)

He was some mother's son, some father's joy.
He worked in the woodshop, when He was only a boy.
He made Joseph proud to call Him his son.
But, He knew in His heart that His work wasn't done.

Now, as He grew older, He began preaching aloud,
In Gethsemane garden, to a soul searching crowd.
He taught them that love was their greatest reward.
Yes, He was some mother's son, He was "Jesus, Our Lord."

Then, His Heavenly Father said, "Son, now it's time."
So, He died on the cross, for your sins and for mine.
Then, Joseph said, "Son, your work here is through."
And, his Son paid the price for me, and for you.
