I am going to try to get my kitten in to see the vet tomorrow for loose stools. I got a sample from her tonite. Should I refrigerate the sample. (I know for humans they usually do). Also, there is a little cat litter mixed in with it, will that matter?

The cat litter won't matter a bit. (Don't feel silly for asking....everyone wonders about that.)

Yes, refrigerate it and take it with you....but it will be better if they get a fresh sample directly from her in the morning. Don't worry....they'll be gentle. The older a sample is (even if refrigerated), the more likely it is to yield false negative results. That means the test might miss some parasites that are really there.

Ummm, Tertia?.....12 hours is too long to be left at room temperature before being set up. Please ask your boss to explain the process of sporulation of parasitic ova to you......
(Hint: It's different times for different parasite species. If you tell people it's okay to wait up to 12 hrs, you'll miss a good bit.)

No you don't need to refrigerate and no it doesn't matter if there is litter stickying to it. I've taken stool samples to the vet every time my girls go for their check-ups.

You don't need to put in in the refrigerator, but the sample should be taken within 12 hours of when it'll be read. The cat litter won't matter as long as there's enough poop there.

yes you should put it in the refrigerator. I don't think the cat litter will matter.
