The British are in Iraq to keep good ties with America but they are in Afghanistan to actually help an on going problem. Alquieda (however you spell it) has made a large scale comeback in that country and could be a threat to international security.

well originally it was to protect human rights in Afghanistan and because those naughty Taliban were playing up, it had absolutley nothing to do with the enourmous oil pipeline that runs right through the country.
In Iraq it was because of the Weapons of Mass Destruction they didnt have and nothing to do with the vast oil reserves that America whoops I mean Iraq has, which is a pure coincidence that the oil pipe line in Afghanistan comes from the oil fields in Iraq.. So It has nothing whatso ever to do with oil or as I like to call it Money, And the British Army is there because the American Army is rubbish and we want some of the money as well

One in, all in. Trade benefits, back door deals, promises of love and kisses forever. The appearance at least, of multi-force participation is a necessity in a global war on terror, regardless of whether you believe there is such a thing or not. Allies, as a rule, are required to at least go through the motions of showing support and concern for the woes of each other. This may take the form of a stern letter of condemnation to an offending nation, or a more robust stance of sending troops to aid the cause. In this case, the Brits have decided that it is in their best interests to join the crusade. Look to your local politics for an answer. It is most unlikely that they're there for the exercise, or because they feel a moral outrage over the actions of the Iraqis or Al Qaeda. As a practising cynic, I always ask myself the question, "What's in it for them?"

They are in Iraq because their leadership wanted them there. They are in Afganistan due to the attacks on the US on 9/11/01. The UK is part of NATO as is the US. As per the agreement, an attack on one country is seen as an attack on all NATO members. Afgansistan is where the attacks on the US originated from.

Oil and cosmetic politics for Bush and Blair to help them win elections - whilst it was working. Not so now though it's all turning pear shaped because they didn't have a five year plan and exit strategy - watch that space!

I can think of no logical reason especially since it has exposed to to a terrorist threat that wasn't there before. I think George buh must have something on Tony Blair.
