Different types of algae give different colors.

it can vary in color depending on the depth in the water you find it.
usually close to the surface it is green, but as you go deeper it can go to reds, blues, and even an almost black shade.

usually green or black, but I think it can be bluish tinted and other colors as well. But typically just green or black.
