In 1997, an episode of the cartoon Pokémon allegedly induced seizures and other ailments in thousands of Japanese children. Though popularly attributed to photosensitive epilepsy, the episode has many of the hallmarks of mass hysteria

I heard of it too. I think it is true because also video games give some kids seizures. This is the first sign of their epilepsy, if they had never had any signs before. Flashing lights make some epileptics go into seizures. The kids parents may have not known earlier that the kids had epilepsy because there are no previous signs or they never had any previous seizures.
