Personally I am a deist, but it is just a step away from atheism. It is a belief. I dont use christianity that way. Why are people so stupid that they cannot understand that it is a belief. Not devil worship. Not killing babies. Not mass murdering.

Well this above statement is not a good start. I'm glad you don't kill babies or do the mass murder thing too.
Atheist are defined by the majority of peoples behavior in this forum. Some are interesting and challenging; others are just entertaining themselves by being rude. I am a Christian and we also are defined by our comments and questions. I like to think there is a few false witnesses out there playing Christian just to make us look bad but I can't prove it. A Theist is many times not an Atheist it is an Anti-theist. If someone was an Atheist they wouldn't be here trying to validate their beliefs because they do not believe. So I think the swear would be toward the Anti-theist.

Because they who are blinded by their faith stop thinking outside the box. They just use verses out of context from what ever book (Bible,Koran,Mad Magazine,etc) of faith they refer to to spew their blubbering nonsense to what ever subject they may be talking about. If they REALLY practiced their love for everyone (like the Amish people really do) , we would have less wars and more harmony here on Earth. The Mansion in Heaven & the 72 Virgins can wait...and on that note, I would like 2 Virgins & maybe 10 more experienced woman...One would need a Viagra IV for 72 Virgins..my goodness!!

Because God says that you are either for Him or against Him. There is no middle ground - it's all or nothing. That may seem narrow minded I agree. But the Bible also teaches that the road into heaven is very narrow. Atheism is not a swear word to a Christian - but it is to your Creator.

its hard being another religion then the mainstream ones. my boyfriend wants our son to be baptized but i dont believe in god, let alone the lutheran strain of god. all i have to say is keep smiling. and dont preach unless someone tries to preach to you. You dont need to keep your religion a secret or anything, but just knowing when to speak up and when to let things lie is good enough for everyone :)

Because "atheist" has always been one of those "dirty" words people don't like to say. And maybe people know very little and only rely of what crazy people and their own active imaginations tell them it is.

Because of fear. Fear is (one of) the driving force(s) behind many major religions, most wars, and a lot of people's lives. It makes sense that fear of something you do not understand leads you to make it a taboo.

When I meet people, and I learn their religious views, tolerant theist views (Deism being one of them) or agnostic/ atheist views gain them like-ability points.
