First, any reputable piercer will insist you are over the age of 18 or have a written, signed consent form from your parent or guardian, or have your parent/guardian be there with you.

Having your tongue pierced is not like having your ears, eyebrow or navel pierced. Your tongue is constantly wet and in an area filled with bacteria and germs. It takes a LOT longer to heal a tongue piercing than even a nipple piercing.

Will it interfere with kissing? Yes, because of the swelling and pain. Consider how many nerve endings are in your tongue, and the likelihood of the piercer permanently damaging it. Will it affect your speech and how mobile your tongue is? You'll have to sign a waiver freeing the piercer from any and all responsibility for damage.

Most likely you'll have to get a prescription for a strong antibiotic for infection. You can use peroxide or saline to keep the piercing clean. For a while you'll have a mouthful of cotton or gauze and a very painful mouth & tongue.

A tongue piercing, like almost all other kinds of piercings, is a statement thing. Frankly, I'd wait. See how long your friends keep their tongues pierced before they let them grow back. Then decide if it's really something you want, or just peer pressure.

Your mom has to pay for the aftercare and problems that might occur with any body decoration you do, so you should listen to her advice. If you still have to have your tongue pierced, wait until you're old enough to sign your own consent forms.

Also, make sure any piercer autoclaves his equipment and that it comes from sealed, sterile packaging before it's used on you.

Piercing your tongue can be uncomfortable. It can get infected at any time, & the tongue ring can irritate a nerve that's under your tongue causing you to be in pain - I can't remember what the nerve is called, but I read it in an article written by a doctor about the cons of tongue piercing. If your not 18, do what your Mom says, don't get your tongue pierced - respect her authority.

I have my tonuge pierced you can still kiss an stuff, infact kissing is better for both parties with it. For the first 2 weeks you wont be able to and for the first few days all you can do is drink ice water and smoothies but its all worth it in the end, i never looked back!

It only hurts for the first 2 days, I have had it for 6 months havnt chipped any teeth and only bit on it once while i was getting used to it once ur used to it it shouldnt be a problem.

Do what you want and remember if you do it and decide its not for you, you can always take it out. Whereas if you dont do it ur jus gonna keep wanting it.

Listen to your mom...although the damage it WILL do to your teeth (hairline cracks) won't show up for a few years when you're old enough to pay for it yourself. Dentists LOVE the tongue piercings. Then there's the infection issue...or the accidentally hitting the vein in your tongue when piercing it and having major blood loss.

I suggest you ask yourself why do you really want to pierce you tongue. I bet if you just ask and answer this to yourself alone none of the answerswill be for anything that's about you. You are perfect the way you are. If it aint broke....don't fix it.

Do you want a roach to lay it's eggs inside your tongue and then hatch. NO? Then that exactly why you shouldn't get a piercing in your tongue. I know a girl who this accident happened to and they had to split open her tongue to get the insect out. Take my advice... or take a chance.

Tongue piercings are grosssssssssss, plus the bit of metal that goes through your tongue can damage your teeth, leaving you with expensive dental work needing done.

I've never done it but I don't think you should. You can get infections easily and I dont think it looks that good. If you really feel you should try to make a compramise with your mom. Tell her why you want one and what you can do for her if she lets you. Like raise your grades. I can't help with the kissing part though............
