My pug just started closing one of her eyes. She keeps rubbing her eye on the ground, I looked and do not see anything obvious in her eye.

Sometimes, but I wouldnt use any without checking with a Vet first, the best eye drops for dogs can be found at a pet store or at the vet. Rubbing her eye can be a sign of an infection or something even worse so TAKE HER TO THE VET. There are a lot of medical conditions that can affect pugs. They are suspectable to these conditions becaue their eyes bulge.

The warm eye drops may provide temporary relief, but the problem will continue if it is an ingrown eyelash or hair.

You have to be careful with pets because the stuff we use on humans may not be good for dogs. Chocholate and sugarless gun that contains Xytol can kill dogs. So you want something that is not filled with a lot of ingredents.

According to: http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dogbaby.html#Swimmer%20puppy%20and%20runny%20eyes
"If that is the case it is possible that a soothing eye drop like Clear Eyes (tm) might help or an antibiotic/cortisone eye drop your vet can supply may help if milder eye drops do not."

Clear Eyes (tm) has Naphazoline Hydrochloride and Glycerin as the major ingredents. Glycerin is a simple lubercant and safe to apply to humans and dogs. A lot of soaps contain Glycerin.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naphazoline_Hydrochloride
Naphazoline can be harmful to nursing cats, but it doesn't say anything about dogs. So the Vetinfo advice I started with sounds like sound advice.

Murine (tm) has Povidone and Polyvinyl Alcohol as its major ingredents and I have no knowlege, and can't find any information, on how they will effect dogs.

The best solution is to get a empty eye drop bottle and fill it with a lightly salted water solution (saline) then use that. I know that salt and water will not hurt your dog.

The problem with store bought eye drops is that the contain a lot of othe material besides the active ingredents. These inactive ingredents are used to perserve the solution, give it a constent color, amd otherwise make it constent and uniuqe so it can be patented. We know that some inactive ingredents like a now banned red dye can cause cancer, so inactive ingredents are not always inactive.

The next best thing would be to go to a pet store and buy eye drops just for dogs.

THE BEST THING TO DO is to go to the vet. If your dog doesn't have an obstruction in her eye then her rubbing could be an indication of something else wrong. This website discusses some eye problems that dogs have: http://www.vetinfo.com/dogeye.html
Conditions like: "Sometimes there are problems with the lids shutting completely in pugs due to the prominance of the eye, or irritation to the eye from folds of skin
on the face rubbing the eye surface, which lead to corneal irritation (keratitis) and then eventually a corneal ulcer."

For more information on the problems with a pugs eyes read: http://www.barkbytes.com/bremed/pug.htm
According to: http://www.pugpros.org/pugfacts.html
"Eye Problems: Pugs are very susceptible to problems with their eyes including cataracts. Ulcers which can occur from a scratch or injury, dry eye, generalized progressive retinal atrophy, pigmentary kerinitis and other problems."

Maxitrol Eye Drops

Some yes, some no....unless you know which ones are which, don't use any of them. Your dog has only 2 eyes. Do you want her to lose one of them? Many human eye drops (including Visine) are harmful to pets' eyes.

It's likely that your Pug has a corneal ulcer....which is something you can't see with your naked eye. It usually takes a special stain for it to be visible. Unless you want to risk her losing one of her eyes, this is not the time to try do-it-yourself diagnosis or treatment. You shouldn't even wait until tomorrow to take her in.

This warrants an after-hours/emergency visit.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU0xF

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

my dogs on maxitrol eye drops which are human eye drops but you cant actually buy them over the counter you need a perscription. you need to take your dog to the vets to determine what the problem is first to treat it. it could be cold in her eye, a foreign body, an ulcer or other. make sure you get the right treatment. i wouldnt use human eye drops without the consent of a vet.

You can wash her eyes with a solution of 1 reaspoon of salt or baking soda, to 1 cup of warm water..But, the commercial, over the counter human eye drops can be dangerous to her eyes..she should see the vet in the morning if her eyes aren't better..
Don;t use the same cotton ball for both eyes..as, if it is an infection, it will spread to the other eye..

Never give a pet any sort of madicine before consulting a vet. In additon giving a pet any sort of human medicene can be dangerous or even deady so the best answer is NO do not give her eye drops. Take her to the vet instead

OK if your pug has a corneal ulcear, I know what to do. Our boxer lost one of his eyes to one of these. Then when the other eye got one too Mum decided enough was enough. She used HUMAN bilbary tablets. And she saved his eye. Dont use the tablets if your not completly sure that it's a corneal ulcear. (Ulcear's can spread to the pupil and thats how my dog lost his). The ulcears give a dog lots of pain so go tothe vet ASAP.

Hope this helps and I hope your dog is going to be fine.

I've used Visine on my cats repeatedly. Just make sure it's the plain formula, not for contacts or anything special. If it persists, the vet has an ointment that you can use if you can wrestle your dog still enough to put a metal tube to their eye and squeeze out about a 1/4 inch onto the eyeball itself.

I'm doing basic obedience right now. My trainer hasn't once handled my dog. He has shown me how to handle my dog by using his own dog but that's about it. The reasoning is that I need to learn how to do these basic corrections and what not myself. Learn more https://tinyurl.im/4kcUT

I have never considered sending my dog away for training. I guess I haven't found that much of a problem with him to even think about it.

Again, it may also have to do with the level of training you are looking for etc. No idea lol. I'm not a trainer. I think a first time dog owner needs to learn simple commands and how to handle their dog themselves as well.
