About a year ago, while discussing with some friends the subjects of death, dying and funerals, body and organ donation came up. We all had pretty much decided on donating whatever could be used except one lady. She said, rather proudly, "Not even my hair will be cut when I die!" I was curious about this, and I asked her why. She became VERY upset at me, yelled that it was her right and then stomped away. I know she's catholic, but that's about it as far as belief structure. I thought it might have been some personal thing for her.

Well, today I was discussing the same thing with another group of older ladies, and one said she couldn't. That she didn't want to be resurrected missing a foot or something. My jaw just dropped. She's a Jehovah's Witness and I thought they thought their god was omnipotent and could easily provide her with a new whatever. (My god could.) Is this a common belief or do both have issues? And where in the bible would one find this mentioned?

Either this questioner or her so-called "Jehovah's Witness" acquaintance fundamentally misunderstands the actual teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses regarding organ donation.

As a religion, Jehovah's Witnesses do *NOT* believe that any bible principles directly apply to the matter of organ donations. Their religion does not forbid them. JWs do expect an earthly resurrection to a paradise earth, and they also expect that the Almighty will provide each resurrectee with a new body without infirmity or missing organs.

For me I have the Holy Spirit in me as a discerner. What a great way to discern the truth. Works everytime. I beleive in miracles they are happening to me and others. God's word is true. I have to read the bible and know the truth for myself. If I pray before I read my mind is set on the spirit and will understand and see where I did not before. That is what God's word is for to correct in love. Only God knows how to do that perfectly. Can't always believe what other tell you if you know that truth it will reveal itself. We can tell the truth God does the converting. He is the only one that can change our heart attitude. I know from experience. I read the whole chapter before I take it to heart, it must be the whole truth not just parts of the bible . It all goes together. I have someone in my life that now helps me to discern. That does not make me weak nor not a thinker of my own. But God's wisdom is greater than worldly wisdom. I use my brain and make dissisions all the time. Its very hard to explain spiritual if you are not there. So I just leave you with this.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I know that our pastor (pentecostal) has a problem with cremation but I have never heard him say anything about organ donation. I am not sure that it was a religion thing for the first lady. Some people just think that it's mutilation, desecration and disrepspect for the dead to cut on them after death. Personally - you can have all of me after my body has died. My true self (my soul) will be dancing on streets of gold. I will have a new body and won't care a bit about the old.

Some people believe, rather oddly I think, that if they do not have all their body parts with them when they die - they will be incomplete at the time of the final resurrection. I can't imagine why someone would believe that we will be resurrected wholly, by God ( a pretty big miracle), but that God wouldn't be able to furnish whatever we needed (part wise and orther wise). Seems contradictory to me.

For the same reason that some believe in Rock n' Roll and others don't. All people, Christians and otherwise, do not behave like robots. They have free will.

I don't know what you are talking about. I am a christian, and I signed my license to have my organs donated, if they want.
I can't believe what some people think. It makes me laugh.

I know peope who don't even want a photograph of them taken. We need to respect personal rights. I am an organ receipent and I don't think anyone should be forced to donate their organs.

This idea of Resurrection of the body is nonsense.

Why would you want it.

I told my family that I wanted to be cremated just in case these guys were right.

Once I get rid of this thing I don't want it back.

Love and blessings Don
