I am exhausted today is it ok if my 2 year old watches tv for the day? Like a movie, or a few?
Already went to the park, for a walk, played and made forts with the sheets, ate, made cookies, I am tired now, is this ok to have the tv on? I cant go anywhere I dont have a car and family and friends are completley useless.

It won't kill her, but there are other things you could do (and that she could do more or less on her own)....coloring/scribbling, play-doh, playing with any dolls/stuffed animals. It's really good to let children this age find things to do by themselves. I, personally, would turn the tv off right now, and tell her it's time for her to have "quiet time" by herself. Tell her she can play with or do whatever she wants (within reason), and let her go for it. She shouldn't always expect to have you as a playmate, but she also shouldn't expect to be instantly amused by the tv the minute you have something else you need or want to do. A little independence is good for her.
I never let the kids I nanny for watch tv on a regular basis, but I will admit every once in a while (once a month or so), we pulled out a video for them. However, they also knew that sometimes I needed to do laundry or change sheets or whatever, and they would have to amuse themselves for a while. A really good trick is to get a few toys, books, stickers/paper, etc. and keep them tucked away in a "quiet time" or "alone time" box. Pull them out when you REALLY need her to amuse herself...the novelty of the stuff may be enough to keep her interested for a while.

There is nothing wrong with you letting her watch the TV, as long as it's educational. In my own experience, the TV can be on but they will usually only watch it for a few minutes at a time anyway. Playing with other things as they go along. Sounds like she's had a pretty full day already anyway. Let her watch it for a while and get some much needed rest. It won't make you a bad mom, I promise. LOL Have a good day!!!

All Moms need a break now and again.

The last thing they need is some elses criticism of how, when, and why they take a rest.

Keep this in mind though, a child of any age (even 2 y/o) will find something to do if the TV is off. They will just sit there and watch it if it is on.

Better that YOU get a little peace than getting angry with him. Be sure to talk to him about what he is watching. Choose PBS or Nickelodean over other things. If there is something on TV he likes, pick up companion books (featuring the same characters) at the library to share later. Great way to get them interested in books.

What difference does one day make? If you're personally convicted that its poor parenting then you shouldnt do it, for your own sake.

But everyone needs a break, and everyone knows the TV is an excellent babysitter.

Instead of the television why not try cracking open a book.
