Christmas is the season of beer, pressies and parties and every year the church pokes its nose in.... should religion be banned from Christmas?

Hello! I've got news to you! Christmas has been a Church feast for almost two thousand years, and the incorporation of the name "Christ" in the name of the feast might give you a hint. You can do whatever you want on Christmas, but that won't prevent Christians from celebrating the Nativity of Christ.

And if this is a joke, it's not funny at all.

If the church is trying to hi-jack Christmas they're not doing a good job of it.

They lag a long way behind Tesco, Argos and Woolworth in terms of number of customers.

p.s. Can't believe how many people on here don't realise it's a pagan holiday and it existed long before Chistianity.

You'd think these Christians would actually try to learn a bit about what they believe in!

How can Xmas be about Jesus birth when the Bible does not say what day he was born on ? 2. that being the case where did they come up with the date of dec 25th ? As most of you know that have done your homework on those questions aboput 300 years after Jesus death and resurection the forwetold apostasy crept into the religious arena and the apostate christians and the pagans were fighting back and forth over petty garbage when the Emperor of that time named Constantine stepped in to put a stop to the constant fighting and got reps from both sides and said Im putting a stop to all this fighting so he took bits and pieces from the apostates and bits and pieces from the pagans and slapped them togother to form the "official state religion" that both parties had to accept and worship so as time progressed they added more and more to this to give it a universal appeal for the pagans in 274 emperor Aurelian had proclamed december 25th the sun god principa patron of the empire and dedicated a temple to him at Campus Martius thus was born christmas at a time when the cult of the sun was particulary strong in Rome and later it was changed to the worship of the Sun not the sun also on that date was the winter soltice because on this date the sun began its return to the Northern skies the pagan devotees of mithra celebrates "dies natalis solis invicti" the birthday of the invincible sun also on that day the Romans celebrated the saturnalia the rebirth of the sun the Roman saturnalia a festival dedicated to saturn the god of agriculture and to the renewed power of the sun some christmas customs are rooted in this ancient pagan holiday the custom of gift giving was not based on what was done by the magi 1. they did not arrive at the childs birth and they did not give gifts to one another but to the child as was the custom when visiting notable persons 2 theese magi were astrologers a practice strongly condemed in the Bible ( Mat 2:1,2) would God have led to the baby Jesus persons who practiced things he condems ? Matt 2 :1- 16 shows shows that the star led the astrologers not to the baby Jesus but 1st to king herod who was seeking to kill him! then an angel warned Joseph about the plot and told them to flee to Egypt untill it was safe to return also in Luke 2 :8-11 it shows that the shepherds were out in the fields with their sheep which they would not be in the cold rainy season of Dec also note in Matt when the astrologers did find Jesus he was not in a manger as depictesd in many Xmas scenes but living in a house and he was about 2 yrs old and in different cultures they have different names for the alleged bringer of gifts in this area it is santa claus in british areas it is father christmas in other lands it may be st nickolaus ,pere noel, knecht ruprecht, the magi, the elf jultomtenor julenissen, or a witch known as la befanna a practice condemed in the Bible so does teaching theese lies to kids build in them a respect for the truth and does such practices bring honor to Jesus Christ who taught that God must be worshipped with truth John 4;23,24 Eph 5:10,2nd Cor 6:14-18 and logically if it supposed to be his birthday why is everyone but him getting gifts and also many of the later additions are also of pre-Christian and pagan origins like the X mas tree Jer 10:1-5 gives you something to think about doesnt it Gorbalizer

WHAT??? oh .... I am soooo sorry that you think that Christmas is all about partying.... It's not that the church tries to hijack Christmas - Christmas began as the celebration of Christ's birth. Yes - Chrstmas has been hijacked but by those that have turned it into a reason to shop and spend money. For many people, the true meaning of Christmas was lost many years ago....

LOL... if it makes you feel any better, the season was celebrated as Yule a long time before Christians came along and made it 'christmas'... so eat, drink and be merry... give and receive presents and ignore the church aspect if it bothers you :o)...make it about you and your family, and about love, about being happy and have a fantabulous time!
Happy holidays.......

no because without religion there wouldn't be Christmas there wouldn't be a season of beer, pressies and parties but most people tend to ignore the religious side anyway so if u don't like the religious side of it then turn a blind eye when your out partying and getting drunk

It is the birth of Jesus Christ and not a free shopping spree at Walmart. Economically it has been a life saver for retail sales during the cold of Winter but realistically it is for the children and not the adults. I don't have children and I never will so Christmas means nothing to me. Also it is a good time for your unstable relatives to come out of the closet, which for me is a good reason to go skiing.

xmas is a christian festival, that's why the church have the monopoly on it. Xmas belongs to the christian church and those follow it's teachings.

Not being christian I don't follow christmas, but I DO celebrate Yule a few days beforehand.

Enjoy your festive season regardless !!!!
