What country has the strongest military, and why?

When it comes down to conventional warfare the U.S is hands down the most powerful military that has ever existed. Our technological advantages in a war zone would give us almost complete domination of any country on earth. How long we can maintain that edge depends on how soon we fund China's military buildup through our insane trade policies. We still have the edge in nuclear warfare to, since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

The USA for sure, since we have the most skilled, dedicated soldiers...have nukes, tracking missiles, stealth submarines with every kind of weapons defence systems and nukes, Anti-missile defence system, missiles that can hit exactly where a cell phone is...secret service all over the world, can fight multiple attacks from many countries, we even help many distressed people that need aid, we supply the UN with money and provide it its own army...We got rid of Hitler when everyone was too scared to, got the Taliban out of power, broke up the USSR, etc. and now we are saving the world again from the north Koreans, Saddam Husein, Iraq getting nukes...even though the whole world says they don't need us...we are the strongest and the least corrupt country in the world! We have our governmental faults, but good has seemed to prevail because of the strength of our army and out national heart.
I would guess Switzerland second, since they require each citizen to dedicate 2 years into their service for training...so if they ever got attacked, their whole country has weapons training etc. plus they can get any weapons they want since no country has anything against them.

Why even ask, definently the United States, followed by U.K., France, China, India, Isreal, Russia, Brazil, and Germany. Not in that order though. The Chinese may have 2.3 million soldiers but most are poorly paid conscripts, and the person who said the U.S. soldier is unloyal reallly do not know what the are talking about, U.S. soldiers are highly disciplined and have stood the test of combat in wars throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, and in any major conflict(yes Iraq and Afghanistan are not major conflicts) would prove themeselves again. The responder must realize that the propoganda he hears in country is most certainly not true U.S. soldiers are extremely loyal to thier country and armed forces.

The country that has moral standing is more powerful then a country that has the largest military machine in the world.

In world war 2 at least the men at a beleive they were fighting and dying for a cause. how many generals are out front with the troops
today? answer None.

How come we have no Patton's. Patton said it is our job to make the other dumb SOB die for his country and not us to die for there country.

If it is the strongest overall, it's the US of A. America may not have the largest army, but its army is not doubt the most modern. If it is relative to the size of the country, it is Israel, they have a huge army compared to their land area. China's military, while large, is mostly defensive, and could not easily attack another country.

usa= not many people are joining the military anymore
china=they believe in quantity not quality

The United States, as world domination becomes more and more its target and strategy, ever since WWII, and after the fall of its "mortal" enemy for this leading position- the USSR, the US has delved in its miliary-industrial complex to carry out the most sinister of wars, president after president.
You build arms, you use them, it is good for the economy, controls populations, and consolidates fear and terror worldwide for those against "democracy".
