I'm a US Marine and I know how the system works fairly well. If something happened to him, you would have heard about it immediately. A local chaplain would have come to your house as soon as they got word. Anywho, what unit is he in and what's his name? I could do some research myself. If he's not infantry, you probably dont have anything to worry about.

They notify the families within 24 hours, and usually within just a few hours. They will come to whomever he wrote down to notify in the event of his death (usually a spouse or parent, but it's up to the individual service member). I know in the Army they only come to your door between the hours of 6 am and 10 pm, and I would assume that it would be the same for every branch. Chances are, if it were your Marine, you'd know by now. I know it's hard to wait but, unfortunately, that's all you can do. If it was someone in his unit that was killed, it may be hard for him to get in touch with his family for a few days. Usually they turn off all the phones and internet until they have notified the families so that the family does not find out from unofficial channels and no rumors can get started. I know it sucks, but the system that they have set up is really the best way to do it. I hope you hear from him soon!

You are living my greatest fear. My son is a Marine and is currently in Okinawa but could be called to go there at any time. If it happens I don't know if I'll throw away my TV and radio and hide my head in the sand or be brave like you and try to find out the truth even if it's bad. If you find out a good place for info, please let me know. oddmom3@yahoo.com

You can check the Department of Defense website, it has a list of all Marines and soldiers that have been killed in action.

Welcome to my world. What's worse is when they release that it's someone from my husband's unit.
If your family member was one of the three, you guys would have been contacted by now.
I'll pray for the safety of your loved one.
