Parakeets can find jobs in more managerial position due to their social nature (however, their confidence is usually a facade).

Bettas are more inclined to choose blue-collar factory work, so while they can get significant overtime, parakeets still net more annual income.

However, if you're only interested in selling them, I'd ask a pet store- bird upkeep is more expensive, but they sell at a higher price than a betta, which you can get for 5 bucks, with little maintenance. It depends on how many you are planning to sell.

Bettas are your best bet, finacially speaking. They require a lot more effort though. The pet shops near me only offer 5.00 per bird and .75 per fish. I had over 300 bettas survive to a marketable age/size which takes tons of work! 300+ fish bowls is way too much to maintain, especially when they are young and need live foods and extra clean bowls. I used 2 pound deli containers to house mine @.07 each, which was economical, but I had fish everywhere! They started fighting at around 8 weeks and then the fun began! I cleaned 50 bowls everyday for a couple months, not fun. You also may have better luck finding pet shops to take bettas than birds, it just depends on the management. Bird shows/fairs only sell parakeets for 7.00 with discounts offered with the purchase of more than 2 or 3 birds. Trust me I go to them 3 times a year. I would not advise breeding either of them for profit, because once you factor in your time and the cost of feeding them you'll come up short. If you want to make money off of animals invest in purebred dogs/cats or higher end parrots that you are willing to hand raise. I will never breed bettas again, (although it is realy cool to watch the whole breeding process). If you still want to try it go to Aquabid.com and get some Crowntails or Halfmoons to breed. Not many pet shops want to sell these fish, you may have to market them on line at Aquabid to unload them.

Betta fish. Parakeets can live up to 6 years and betta fish not so long. Besides if you buy two betta fish and put them in the same bowl..one of them is gonna die. The person is gonna come back to buy another one..so go with the fish.

Having done both...Parakeets are easier to breed than Bettas. Parakeets sell better than Bettas. You will not make a profit from breeding either unless you do it on a large scale and can supply petshops. If you just want to be a hobby breeder, both creatures can be very interesting to breed.

If you are talking about selling then a parakeet. Betta fish only cost $3.47 at PetSmart. I got 4. Not sure about a parakeet but they got to cost more.

A pair of budgies will produce 3-5 eggs per clutch. You can only breed the hen twice per year (more than that will compromise her health). So you would get 6-10 baby budgies to sell at about $15-$20. That means $90-$200 per year in baby budgie sales for one pair. This is assuming all goes well - the eggs are fertile and hatch, parents take care of the eggs/babies properly and the babies all survive. Keep in mind that it probably costs about that much to buy food and toys for the parents and you are maybe breaking even. Avian vet care is very expensive, also.

Bettas take up a lot less space so you can have more of them. If the male and female breed successfully one spawn can have hundred of eggs. Assuming you can raise at least 100 fry to saleable size and half are male and female with males selling at $4 each and females at $2 each, you would make $300 from one spawn. Fish are cheaper to care for and feed. You will need to buy a lot of jars initially, though, because all the males will need to be separated at a fairly young age!

Now, this is very idealized, things happen, animals get sick, fish eggs get attacked by fungus, you have to find buyers, etc., but from a purely monetary standpoint, the Bettas are easier/cheaper to care for, you can have more in less space, and would theoretically make more money.

Neither. youll spend most (if not all) of your earnings on housing and caring for the animals. you should really research the breeding of birds because its exhausting and expensive, even for parakeets. i had a pair of parakeets that droped eggs all the time and never took care of them even with the breeding boxes available to them so dont count on them doing any of the work. with the fish its a pain in the *** too. so unless you become a supplier to a major pet store, you wont make any money.

Please do not get either just to make money. They are living creatures and require extra care and time for breeding. If you are really interesated talk to a reputable breeder of birds/fish. Or buy some books. I know from experience, the breeding of birds takes alot of time and research, right conditions, etc.
You need to be very knowledgeable in care, food, etc.
