No. If you are cooking dried beans adding the salt before they start to get soft will make them tough and it will take them longer to cook. Add salt when you add the other seasonings.

If you're using canned beans, there's no need to add salt. The canning liquid contains salt and is absorbed by the beans. If you have pre-soaked dried beans, and are cooking them for chili, then, yes. Add one quarter teaspoon for every two cups of beans.

I always soak the beans in baking soda water the night before so they will absorb a little sodium then so no I wait till I add all the rest of my spices.
