I keep thinking that my house cleaner has tampered with my water systems in my house such as the water softener and it is making me constantly paranoid. I am afraid of brushing my teeth, showering, and drinking water.

Don't be paranoid! Relax and take a deep breath! If you are concerned about it, set up a hidden camera where you suspect she is tampering with the water system and wait to see. At the same time go get your water tested to be safe from a water management company or buy one a water tester at a local hardware store who should have it. If not, ask a plumbing company. Canadian Tire does sell the water test kit. Hope nothing is wrong with you water.

Water softeners only reduce the amount of minerals in the water that make it "hard". What you're looking for is water purification; that's what cleans the water, removes chlorine, minerals and other things like bacteria and sediment. A good purification unit will give you better than city water. Many cities have poor quality drinking water and more have poor tasting water filled with too many chemicals. You can get whole house units, units that would install under the sink to make all the water coming from let's say the kitchen sink filtered or something as simple as a faucet mounted unit that you use only when getting a drink or drawing water to make drinks or cook with. And of course, the larger the system and the more water it filters, the more expensive it will be. And the more maintenance it will require. Filters can get to be pretty expensive; even for the faucet mounted units. A Pur water filter mounted on the faucet lasts most households (who use it for drinking and cooking only) about 2 months. The filter is about $25.00. Easy to change, filters easily found. Not happy with the durability of the Pur units; we've tried them a couple times; they start leaking in very short order. But before you start looking at systems, decide what areas you really need to cover. Do you really need a whole house filtration system or could you just replace the water softener and then add something to the kitchen faucets for drinking? Does your fridge have a filter in it for the ice maker and water?

Water softeners do just that-- soften water. They are not purification systems. The only problem you would have from tampering would be hard water. Use a litmus test to test for soft or hard water.

No offense, but you sound a little psycho there buddy. You can conduct a simple test with pH tester slips which you can buy from Home Depot, or maybe even Walgreens.

p.s. Why would your cleaner be trying to hurt you???

Is there a way you can lock the system and you have the only key? Or you coud FIRE that cleaner if you suspect they have bad intentions towards you.
