The Catholics, and they're proud of it! (Where's i'macatholic when we need him?) It's not backed up in the Bible. (Matt. 5:17,18) So, once again we have the perennial choice: God's word or somebody else's. "What Should I Do??"

Historically the 7 day week predates the Bible. Which day is first is a purely cultural matter. In Russian "Tuesday" is called "vtornic", "second", yet "Saturday" is "sabbota", "sabbath". Even so, the Orthodox Church celebrates Mass on Sunday "voskresenye", "resurrection". The Jews consider the 7th day to be Saturday, which was named by the Romans after their Pagan God Saturn. I've heard, though I've no documentation, that some Islamic sects consider the sabbath to be Friday. For these reasons, you will not find any biblical source for a specific day of the week for the sabbath, it's entirely up to you.

The Catholics didn't have anything to do with it!! Read Acts 2. The deciples did this before the Catholics were ever heard of. It was the day of Penticost. You need to read the bible not the catholic creed. That
creed means nothing. The Jews worshiped on Saturday the Sabbath but the Christians worshiped on Sunday
the first day of the week. This was done by example not command!!! The Catholics weren't even born yet!

Noone changed the sabbath. It is and has ALWAYS been Saturday, the 7th day of the week. Christians meet on Sunday, the first day of the week because it is the day that Christ was raised from the dead. Paul said to "let no man judge you in the keeping of sabbaths....". Just look at a calendar and anyone can see for themselves that Sunday is the first day of the week. Peace.

The catholics. It doesn't say so in the bible that they are responsible but you research and find out for yourself. The bible does say remember the seventh day as the sabbath and keep it holy. Sunday is and always has been known as the 1st day of the week. Saturday is the last day of the week. Which makes it the seventh.

A lot of people say Constantine officially changed it. It isn't backed up in the Bible at all though. If you read Acts you will find they still worshiped on the Sabbath.

It was Roman Emperor Constantine as a way to make Christianity more acceptable to the Pagans of his time. SUNday was the day to worship the sun-god and the early Christians already wanted to distance themselves from the Jews, so Constantine- smart politician that he was- declared Sunday to be the official holy day of the Christian week.

God told the people to rest and think about him once a week or so, so they could reflect on their faith instead of going on and forgetting it after some time. It was always on Sundays, but the Israelites celebrated it on Saturday night because without a sundial at night, they couldn't tell the time. It doesn't really matter what day it is. We just chose Sunday so we all relax at the same time. Makes thwe flow of the world easier.

If you read the story of Creation, you will find that the 7th day-the Shabbat-is Saturday. Christians changed it somewhere along the way------I do not when, and much less why.
