They don't know that the translator is genuine that is one reason you shouldn' do it. In the Bible there were three tests for tongues.
1. It had to be a known language, not followed at all today. You never hear of anyone speaking pure English that has never before spoken it before. It just does not exist in Christian circles today, completely unbiblical. Being a known language is what made it supernatural and was proof that it came from a supernatural source, either God or Satan.
2. It had to be interpreted. Not by a supernatural source, such as what you mention, but someone who actually spoke the language. That is the only way you could prove it was authentic. They had no know what language the person would be speaking in and if there was an interpreter of that language BEFORE the person spoke in tongues.
3. The interpretation had to be compared to the Word of God to determine if this was a message from God or from a demon or spirit.
None of these rules are followed at all in "toungues" circles today and they don't do it because they want to communicate from God they do it because it makes them feel good. We walk by faith not feelings. It should be shunned, it is not in the Bible, it is not of God, it is part of the great deception that God promised would come on the church in the end times. Remember it is only 100 years old, started with Agnes Osman and Charles Fox in 1906. Did God not care about the Christian Church for 1900 years until these two came along?

There is our prayer language (speaking in tongues - a gift of the Holy Spirit). It is to edify your spirit, drawing you closer to God. It is with the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues.

No one else understand this language. It is for you alone.

Then there are "other tongues" which is different. It too is a gift of the Holy Spirit and it must have an interpretation. Otherwise it is chaos and that's when it's wrong (and not of the Holy Spirit). I experienced this and can only say it is the Holy Spirit.

I attend a Spirit filled Church and we believe in the gifts of the Spirit. I have seen them with my own eyes and experienced the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. When there are "other languages" being spoken, there is an interpretation. I have also seen it the other side of it...and it was stopped immediately. That is called discernment of the Spirit and it is another gift.

You can read about it in Acts chapter 2

***Understand, this is not about freaking out, foaming at the mouth or throwing yourself on the floor and having a fit. That is not the Holy Spirit...but I wouldn't doubt it being a possession of a demon.***

Here are some additional scriptures:

Luke said in Acts 10:46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.Then Peter asked,

Paul wrote:

1 Corinthians 14:2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, [ Or in unknown languages; also in 14:4, 5, 13, 14, 18, 22, 26, 27, 28, 39.] you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.

1 Corinthians 14:5 I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.

1 Corinthians 14:22 So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

1 Corinthians 14:39 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.

1 Corinthians 12:11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

Hebrews 2:4 And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

1 Peter 4:10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

Laughable, isn't it!

It's so easily shown to be stupidity too.

So, there are people gifted in "speaking in tongues" and others gifted in "the gift of translation". Great. So, go to one church and record the babblings and gibberings. Take the tape to several other places where there are people who translate.

All translations should be effectively the same shouldn't they!!!!!

Funny, when it's been done, all the translations have proved to be totally different and unrelated.

Emotional hysteria combined with low intelligence would seem to be the root cause.

Glossilalia, or "speaking in tongues" comprises the utterance of semantically meaningless syllables. It is claimed by some to be a mystical language; others claim that it is the speaking of an unlearned foreign language. Glossalalic utterances sometimes occur as part of religious worship.
That is what Wikipedia says.
I have been in a church where some people began "speaking in tongues". It sounds like nonsense to those listening. In this context, some people believe that it is God speaking through them and others believe that it is speaking to God. Though there may be people that claim to translate, I, personally, have never heard of it. It is however, considered a sign of the deepest faith and many envy the "speaker" their profound faith. They consider it a sign of God's favor, that the speaker is being transported by God's love.

Research of sorts has been carried out. You must realise that serious science does not wish to be associated with mumbo-jumbo men, the majority of whom are gullible simple folk. The language of `tongues`, is similar to the gibberish of children. Children often develop a nonsense language, a collection of sounds that they use as communication. The interpretation is the problem!! Of course the mumbo-jumbo men have all the answers. Answer this!! Would a `God`, or any of his minions send a message via a bunch of shaking, gibbering clowns?

The Translator would be a Spirit, Angel, God. It is an occurrence that (when genuine) is truelly amazing. I am not a Christian, but I have been there to see for myself. Truelly amazing.

In my opinion, 'Speaking in Tongues' is a result of some much power rising up in a human being (Holy Spirit), (positive Divine energy) that there must be a release. The body can't contain all of it. So for some, the release is through the voice.

Speaking in tongues is supposed to be one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and it touted to be the ability to speak in a foreign language with which the speaker has no prior knowledge. Expression of it is important in the beliefs of some fundamentalist Xians, most notably the Pentecostals. (Pentecost was when the HS was thought to have descended on the disciples) Other groups think that handling snakes expresses a gift.

To an outsider, it looks like people rolling around and babbling in gibberish (hence the term "holy rollers") And essentially that is all it is...they "speak" in no known or even forgotten language...which makes it sort of useless if the point of the "gift" is to help spread the word of god. The "vocalizations" have been studied by philologists and linguistic experts, and the noises have no structure or syntax consistent with a real language.

Similar practices are seen in many animistic religions, where participants dance, chant and get into a religious frenzy and become possessed by ancestors' spirits etc. Group hysteria and expectations contributes to the experience...ie people expect to see others speak in tongues, or to do so themselves, and with high levels of stress hormones, that is then what happens. Medically the condition is often seen in many psychiatric conditions and is known as "pseudo-seizures"

Paul who spoke most of it puts it in perspective.

1 Corinthians 12:30-31

Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Note----he does not say tongues abide---

On the day of Pentecost all the disciples were in one place and of one accord and God sent the gift of tongues to these people but more He gives it to all generations for enlightrenment, for prophecy, and for intimate prayer. It is not a requirement to go to heaven it is a tool to use here to prove the existence of our comforter the Holy Spirit and increase faith

speaking in tongues was a gift of the holy spirit given to the apostles and first century cChristians after Jesus's death. it was intended for the advancement of Christianity through the gentile nations, so the Christians were gifted with being able to speak the foreign languages.
today, Christianity is widespread and worshipped in many languages so the need for the gift of tongues is no longer required. many churches claim to speak in tongues, but they merely speak garbled nonsence. it is not the holy spirit powering this, it is demons wishing to lead people astray from Jehovah's true worship
