How long it takes depends on several factors.

1. On what Service Center you'd file your I-129F at. Some Service Centers process applications quicker than others. (Example, Vermont Service Center is the fastest and Nebraska the slowest).
2. How well prepared you application is. If you receive a Request for Further Evidence from the Service Center, it will delay approval by a couple of months.
3. How quickly the Embassy/Consulate schedules appointments for the K-1 Visa.

All in all, it could take anywhere from 3-10 months to complete the entire process (less if at a faster Service Center).

My advice, since the whole process is so unpredictable, I wouldn't make any definate wedding plans until you've received your Approval Notice, or at the very least, plan a year in advance.

It took me almost exactly four months from the date my fiancee filed the petition to the date I went to the Embassy. That was from the UK. We engaged an attorney and the paperwork went much more smoothly than the others who were there on the same day - some had waited almost a year.

If you have a date for the Embassy you can start packing and planning. You will get the Visa that day and, theoretically, could go straight to the airport (I do not recommend that!)

Good luck and welcome to the Land of Opportunity.

Check with the Embassy.
