My tongues work great. However John Winston says that God took them away because they were only necessary at Pentecost. Strange how Paul mentioned it after Pentecost.

John, apparently, you have never had the Holy Ghost, or you would never say that tongues are gone. Sad how you would settle for less that all God has for you.

If you don't speak in tongues, then you don't beleive.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

No new tongues no belief. These are the words of Jesus. If you don't believe Him, then there is not hope for you.

The purpose of tongues was to preach the Gospel at that time to the Gentiles who did not speak Greek and Aramaic..After they had been preached to the purpose of tongues was over.God then took them..1 Cor 13:8.Southern,I want to invite you to worship God the right way by accepting Christ..You will not regret it.God bless.Update:Tongues were not just for Pentecost..They were around for years afterwards until the Bible was complete.Btw:All local Oneness Pastors that live around me evade dodge and avoid me because they know that Christ is here and they shiver.I have no fear of your religion and I will gladly discuss this with even the head leaders of the UPC.God bless.I got the Holy Ghost when I accepted Jesus as my Savior.."These Three are one"(1 John 5:7)You never answered my question about the man crossing the road..He go to heaven or hell??LOL....God bless.

The gift of tongues existed at Pentecost and it was for the disciples to be able to speak and witness to people of different languages. Well, that isn't necessary anymore and God took that away because it had fullfilled its purpose. By the way, back in those days also, if someone spoke in tongues there would also be someone to translate to the masses that was listening. (Read Corinthians)There was no such psychobable and rolling of the eyes like there exist today and people have no idea that they are probably cursing God in multiple psychobable languages that no one can understand or let alone they can understand.

When the the Bible mentions the Apostles and others speaking in tongues, it is saying that they were heard to speak in the native languages of the people they were speaking too, and all but a few are said to have understand them perfectly. Therefore, people who claim to speak in tongues, in a kind of gibberish, that is not understood by anybody, (nor is it Aramaic or ancient Hebrew) are in on contradiction to the Bible. I'm afraid what you are describing is a kind of mass-hysteria brought on by an extremely emotional experience.

Through out the time of revelation God used special gifts to show that what was being spoken by his prophets and apostles was indeed the word of God. These special proofs ceased when the Word was complete even as we don't see men raising people from the dead for miraculous healings now. They served Gods purpose in verifying the authenticity of His Word.

Because it is not needed today to teach about Christ. Nothing new will be reveled other than what is in the Bible. This is even given as a warning, in Galatians 1:8,9

Maybe God is both God and the devil and like to play games with the souls he created. Why is life the way it is, like the circle of life, or why do people kill each other over religion, which is to believe in God.

I agree He will not take a gift away but sometimes we loose track of gifts we have been given usually because of sin

Why should God make the old covenant only to erase it with Jesus dying on the cross?
