Sounds like a hangover cure. Cola syrup is actually marketed as a hangover cure, though it doesn't come right out and say that on the label. It says something like, "for headache and seasick-feeling after overindulgence the night before." Whatever.
People went super-nuts over the Coca-Cola cake when I worked at Cracker Barrel. It tasted like chocolate--I don't know what the big deal was.

First I've ever heard of them. I've eaten barbecued chicken nuggets which have had Coke in the sauce, but not a battered version.

Do you mean fried Coca-Cola? Thats at the nc state fair. it doesn't even tatse like Coca-cola. Its just a funnel cake in a cup. but its really good!
