Brain Cell Salad

1 pkt blueberry gelatin dessert mix (6 oz.)
1 ct small-curd cottage cheese (16 oz.)
1 can blueberries in syrup (16.5 oz.) or 3/4 cup frozen blueberries, thawed
blue food coloring

Prepare gelatin according to the directions on the package. Chill for four to five hours, or until firm.
Scoop cottage cheese into bowl. Drain and set aside the syrup from the blueberries. Add the berries to the cottage cheese and mix well. Add three drops food coloring to turn the cottage cheese a nice grayish color when blended. To serve salad, place a few spoonfuls of firm gelatin (congealed brain fluids) onto individual plates. Top with a scoop of cottage cheese (brain tissue) mixture and serve.

Baked Rigaboney with John

3 tbl olive oil
2 lrg garlic cloves finely chopped
1 sm onion finely chopped
1 can tomato paste - (6 oz)
2 can crushed tomatoes in puree - (28 oz ea)
1 tsp sugar
1 tbl coarse salt more to taste
1 tsp freshly-ground black pepper more to taste
1 lb rigatoni
2 lb sweet Italian sausage casings removed
1 1/2 lb whole-milk ricotta cheese
1 lb mozzarella cheese shredded

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium heat. Add garlic and onion, and cook until onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. Add tomato paste, and cook, stirring, 2 minutes. Stir in tomatoes and sugar. Season with 1 tablespoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Cook until slightly reduced, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil; add salt. Add rigatoni, and cook, stirring occasionally, 9 minutes. Drain in a colander, and rinse under cool water until cool. Set aside.
In a medium nonstick skillet, heat remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage, and cook, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon to break up any large pieces, until browned and cooked through, about 8 minutes. Drain, and set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine ricotta with half of the mozzarella. Stir to combine. Season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper.
To assemble, spread 1 cup of the sauce in the bottom of a 9- by 13-inch baking dish. Add half of the rigatoni in an even layer. Spread with 1/2 cup sauce, ricotta mixture, sausage, and 1 cup more sauce. Top with remaining rigatoni, and 1 1/2 cups sauce. Any remaining sauce may be reheated and served on the side or reserved for another use. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella over the top to cover. Place baking dish on a baking sheet, and transfer to oven. Bake until bubbly, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve hot. Can be made the day before and reheated.
This recipe yields 8 to 10 servings.

Use a cookie cutter to cut out different shapes (pumpkin, ghost, etc) of cheeses. Put those on a platter with all kinds of crackers and fruits.
I know that you have drinks in mind already, but this one has been a hit at my parties for adults.

Pumpkin Coladas
1/2c coco lopez
1/4c pumpkin puree with spice
2c apple juice
as much rum as you like
ice.
Toss in blender and serve!

cupcakes are always a good choice. i tint white icing to be either orange or purple and i use those little spider rings as decoration. it's cute, without being too childish.

i like fall-themed foods for halloween. maybe make a big pot of chili and serve either bowls of chili with bowls of toppings on the table--bowls of chopped onion, shredded cheese, sour cream, etc. or you can also serve hot dogs so people could possibly have chili dogs.

get some pre-made rice krispie treat bars. you can form those into a bone shape. coat them with softened icing to make them look like bones. put a mound of crushed oreos on a plate, arrange the bones over the oreo crumbs. you can purchase a fake raven or crow to sit beside the plate to make it look a bit creepier.

of course, caramel apples are always a good choice for a fall gathering.

Sloppy joes in a crockpot, and hot turkey and gravy in a crockpot. Both on buns.
A big veggie tray with dill dip. Little weenies--also in a crock pot--3 pkgs little weenies, 20 oz of grape jelly & 20 oz of chili sauce.
A taco tray--spread a mix of sour cream/taco seasoning on a large platter, top w/lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, olives, onion, serve w/tortilla chips.
Potato salad or mac salad.
A cheese/sausage tray with crackers is good, so is nacho dip (equal amounts canned chili without beans and velveeta---again in a crockpot!) with chips.
All of these are real crowd pleasers around here!
Have fun!

I have a dessert idea. It looks like a graveyard and it is delicious! You make chocolate pudding and crush up oreos. Then you put milano cookies and decorate them as gravestones. Use gummy worms for worms. It is delicious! :)
