French people eat the same foods as you or I, but French COOKING is very detailed and some would say complicated, marked with rich sauces made with butter, cream, eggs and wine, and savory spices like sage, tarragon and rosemary or Herbs De Provence and cooking techniques like sauteeing, braising, roasting and au gratin. Desserts are very rich with cream, eggs and chocolate. Cheese and wine is a large part of the meal along with fresh bread.
It depends on where you live in France as to what you eat. People in some areas eat more beef, while others eat more fowl or fish. Fresh vegetables, bread and fruits are always served.
Some classic French foods are Hollandaise Sauce, Bernaise Sauce, Cassoulet, Souffle, Vichyssoise, Escargot, Crepes, Creme Brulee, Omelettes, Quiche, Beef Bourguignon, Coq Au Vin, Bouillabaisse, Brioche, Croissant and Salad Nicoise.
You'll have to finish your homework and look up what all of these foods are. Look for any book by Julia Child (a famous american chef who is known for introducing French cooking to mainstream America), especially her book called Mastering The Art Of French Cooking.
Good luck and have fun!

I m Belgian we think we are better cooks than the French but I love both kitchens. Actually we eat more French fries in Belgium. Sell them on most street corners. The French kitchen has changed over the years and it is not a mix of different cultures. I can make a meal with a baguette ( bread ) a chunk of cheese and red wine.
Very French. They have great cheeses. Escargots are also available on street corners, (snails) Also warm roasted chestnuts.
They will start with a thick soup and just add to it day after day and it becomes a delicious sort of stew. They also have great soups with fish.I am getting hungry, got to go and cook. Bon Appetit

I, too am French and I eat whatever I can afford and if it tastes good. There is no food that should be for just one language. I love spaghetti and make a lot of it. I do not like most French dishes, like escargot, potato soup or headcheese. Yuk.

well, they do eat crapes:) For breakfast they don't eat a lot, usually bread and butter or a roll, and some kind of drink. During the day (for lunch or dinner) they like meats with sauce, cheeses, and some fresh salad and bread. The French enjoy eating, and can sit and talk while they eat for an hour or more. Hope it helps!
