Will be transferring to a new location and will be relocating my family to a different state. The area my family will relocate has a lower BAH rate than my next duty station. Which BAH rate would I be entitled to receive? Thanks for those who answer in advance..

You will always get the BAh rate for your current location, they don't give BAH rates for separated spouses anymore. They had a problem with all of these people haveing their wives "live" in NYC, with a BAH rate of over $2,000.00. Now you only get where you are at, regardless.

what do the orders state? if your orders read Acompanied, you will receive BAH at the location of your duty station. If they read Unacompanied, BAH will be based on the zip code of their location. However, the command does have the authority to decide that you will get the lower BAH of you voluntarily choose to not bring them, especially in CHA areas.

Family sep would ONLY come into play here IF your orders read Unacompanied. If you have acompanied orders and choose to live apart anyway, you are not entitled to Family Sep.

Generally, if you are on PCS orders, you get the BAH for the Zip Code where you are stationed. However, check with your admin section or check out www.dod.mil/dfas.
