YES YES YES! You eat nothing but protein in the form of meats, poultry, eggs and pork. No fruit, no veggies (lettuce ok). All sorts of saturated fats like sour cream and real butter. This is enough cholesterol to clog an elephants arteries! Also, the main reason the diet works is that it puts your body in a state of ketosis; ketones in your urine that burn up the fat. While this sounds fantastic, it's poison to your body and can kill you. You might lose weight, but it will come right back as soon as you start back on a 'regular' diet. Look up a healthy alternative like "the ExchangeDiet" or sugar busters. Dieting is hard work no matter which one you choose. It should be healthy and a life-style change. Godloveya.

By the way: Dr. Atkins is dead.

the atkins diet, while it may help you temporarily lose weight, does not provide your body with adequate fuel to function. Because carbohydrates are the main energy source for you body, depriving it of them will leave you feel lethargic and weak.

Also, by following a low carbohydrate diet you are often depriving your body of essential vitamins and minerals that are found in fruit and whole grains.

Instead of the Atkins diet, try eating healthier, smaller portions and exercising for 30 minutes at least 4-5 times per week.

Yes. Carbs are the only fuel your brain can use, and it is your bodies preferred fuel. The Atkins practicaly cuts out even good carbs. Plus, all that fat and protein, bad for your heart and liver. And it all goes back on , plus more!

YES!!! Do not do it. Not eating whole grains and fruits and veggies is not good for your body.

If you want to lose weight, eat right and exercise.

Eat right- eat small meals every few hours, with each meal containing whole grain, fruit or veggie, and protein.

Work out- at least 1/2 hour every day.

the one positive about atkins is that it restricts your manufactured sugar and processed flour intake, which i would also recommend.

atkins diet is low carb. carbs are what give you your enerfy supply, and keep you active. lots of people who go on atkins are very tired and tend to skip working out, which means you dont loose as much weight. what works for my mom is "Weight Watchers" becasue you can eat whatever you want, and it is based on calories at fat intake, instead of carbs.

Ketosis is not healthy for your heart, liver or colesterol levels... Neither is fat without fiber (often high carbohydrate fiber) to sop it up and aid in its elimination. The skin on beans for example.

Dr. Atkins died of heart failure...

yeah,

my dad was on it.

he lost weight... but his breath smelt, he had the runs, had lack of vitimins...

when he stop it the weight went right back on so its not consistant.

to lose weight id advise you to cook all the food u eat from scratch yourself (not from scratch but no microwave or instant food)

this way u know exactly whats going in, and unless you are really hungry you wont bother and when u do you make a fully rounded meal.

this is why i and most students lose weight

Yes, I watched a program about it and you can end up with liver failure and heart problems not to mention the bad wind and discoloured urine. Exercise and eat little and often.
