Please note that I am in the U.K. My neighbour across the street goes out to work and leaves the dog in ALL day and this thing barks from morn til night. We have only lived here 6 months so we don't want to rock the boat but we have a small child and when he naps I try to get a nap and that thing is yapping like crazy. So therfore I am one stroppy Mummy!
What can I do? and can it be an anonomous thing???

My neighbor also has 2 dogs that bark any time we or my dog step outside which is pretty annoying. On the rare occasion when someone is home next door they do try to quite the dogs. But, that's not often, so what I did was find out the dogs names and now when ever we go outside and they bark I start calling them by name and talking to them a little and they stop barking. I think it's because they are alone so much with no one to give them attention. The neighbors rented that house about 6 months after we bought our house. It's now a year and a half later and you would think that these dogs would recognize our smell and not bark when we go outside - but no such luck. We are hoping they move at the end of their lease next summer (fingers crossed!). I don't know how it is in the U.K. but here in south Texas animal complaints to the police are low priority unless the dog is lose and trying to hurt someone. I am sure you aren't the only neighbor that is going crazy from the barking. Talk to some of your other neighbors and get a group together and go talk to the neighbor or file a complaint...that way it's not just you.

Go next door and talk to the neighbor.

I new my Mr for 4-6 years before we got together. One thing his dogs did when he left for work was bark, and oh they cried!!

I lived across the street from him. His dogs were a big issue in our little neighborhood. When I got to no him and his dogs I would talk to the dogs from my house and they went quiet. This I realize is not something you could probably do (our tiny town is quite different then city).

However the owner may not no the dog is doing this....and maybe if he/she did no there dog was crying and barking for them the owner would do something to stop this behavior giving you the quiet you so desperately need?

We only have one dog pound lady for our WHOLE county. She gets real busy at times and we do not see her out in our town a whole lot. So we tend to talk to each other and resolve problems on our own if we can.

Good luck and you never no the neighbor might be a heck of a nice person?

well we had that problem with our across street neighbor before . what i would do if you ever have the chance to go to your next door neighbor why odnt you ask them to put their dog inside the house or call the police and tell them that one of the neighbor has a dog that keep barking and the ownere isnt doing anything about it . cause the police will do sometihng about if not then you should write a notice note and go to the house gave t o them , if theyre not home usually then you can still l put a note for them to read it when theyre back home . maybe if you can just talk to them instead.

Wow! Some of you are so stupid seriously theres no need to give her ways to kill the dog. All she has to do is go over across the street and explain to the dog owner and tell them if maybe they can put the dog inside while they arent home or take it to some doggy daycare/pet hotel place.

you can call RSPCA which is anonomous because it is cruelty to leave a dog alone for more than 4 hours at a time. Therefore you are sorting out your problem and protecting the dog.

Just gotta talk to the neighbour, same thing was happening to me and the neighbour ended up getting rid of the dogs after I complained(PS ask the other neighbours if it bothers them as well backup always helps that way it is not just you and you don't have to be so anonymous).

well apparently the rspca wont come out over a barking dog but that dog should not be neglected all day every day and so the rspca will come out to that and investigate and its completely annonymous so the neighbour wont know it was you! you have to do something about it! give them a ring and see what they say xx

walmart sells a hand held ultrasonic transmitter for 30 dollars. low tone for "good dog", and high pitch for "bad dog", high pitch is painful, u can train him to shut up from a distance. p.s. - don't point it at a humans ear.
