Could the belief in God become a thing of the past?

Maybe 100 years from now we would all laugh at theism

Atheists can't be judged as a unit, imo. I think new discoveries will diminish the importance of religion while bridging many of the gaps between science and spirituality.

No. The next step in human progression (I avoid the term 'evolution' since it is a bit misleading here) is to replace our brains (and likely the rest of our bodies as well) with superior mechanical counterparts, making us stronger, faster and smarter than a biological human could ever be. Global atheism probably won't come until AFTER that step has been taken; the brains we've evolved with just aren't structured in a way that will statistically permit everyone (or even almost everyone) to deconvert BEFORE upgrading to a posthuman state of existence.

I think that the more our scientific knowledge advances the idea of God will change dramatically and there will be more and more atheists. But there will also be people who still believe in deity, but who will approach belief with a more rational viewpoint - which means the nature of deity changes. One thing we have to understand about religion is it often attempts to explain what we do not understand. I suspect that the more we learn, there will still be those things we cannot explain. But I don't forsee all religion disappearing - especially in a mere 100 years.

And perhaps relativism will also be the next mental evolution - in which people become increasingly stupider. Oh... I guess that's not evolution - then again, it sounds like Darwin's finches who "evolved" in a cyclical pattern (which also can't happen in evolution, but whatever).

There was a man in Bible times who said that same thing. After Jesus had left earth, His disciples were preaching about him. The religious and political leaders imprisoned the disciples and called a meeting about them. One man, Gamaliel, stood up and said; if these disciples are following only a fad their religion will die and we will not have to worry about them. If they are telling the truth, however, their religion will thrive. Interestingly, "their religion" still thrives today. (This can be found in the book of Acts in the Bible, chapter 5.)

God exists and will exist regardless of if you believe in Him or not. He is more powerful than your disbelief.

Good question, I think (and hope) it could well be. I can see that religion brings some positive things to the world, but it's all pretty silly really. Atheism is increasing all the time and I think it's probably the future.

The statistics show that there a larger percentage of Atheists amoung people with higher education. I think being an Atheist is a sign of intelligence. (At least for those with a reason for being Atheist)

I think that Spirituallity is the next evolutionary step for humans. But Athiesm could be one of the roads to get there.

Can you prove this?

But I think it's because of the sin in this world making people turn Atheist... I just can't see why people would WANT to turn Aetheist. It's a horrible way to think of life.

Why wait 100 years. A 'real' atheist would laugh at us now. (;P)

Hoping the best for you...

Nope!......I don't know where you're getting your information from but it would do you good to search out these things thoroughly!.....Ps. if that were the case then, Court Houses would take GOD'S Name out of the system, the money you spend everyday would not have "In GOD We Trust" written on it, the Pledge Allegence to the flag would cease, etc. etc. etc. .......understand that this whole world recognizes GOD in some way!......ps. if you atheists can get rid of all thses things, then you would have dominion!....but guess what, you can't do it because GOD RULES!.....simple as that!
