Muslims don't circumcise their newborn males, except some of those living in the US, the other big group of people into circumcision. Muslims circumcise older boys, though not all muslim boys are circumcised. Muslims sometimes circumcise girls, though not as often as they did. For example, it has recently been banned in Egypt (but still happens on the sly). They are a number of types of female circumcision. Male circumcision varies too, but not as much. The less severe forms of female circumcision are less severe than average male circumcision, while the most severe female circumcision is worse than male circumcision. Muslims sometimes complain people in the US are hypocrites, because they are against female circ but not male circ.

On circumcision. It is written into the Holy Books of both Islam and Judaism that boys should be circumcised. There is also a practical reason - there is a hell of a lot of sand in the Middle East, there are often high winds, and tribesmen wore loose garments, such as robes or burnouses, rather than trousers, because it is very hot out there - trousers lead to jock itch (skinned crotch and testicles from excess sweat being trapped). Wearing skirts without underwear could well lead to a bit of sand being sent up to the penis in a burst of wind, and , as a bloke, I can tell you that having sand trapped underneath the foreskin is bloody painful.

I have only heard of Muslim women being circumcised, Somali women to be precise. The opening heals up to form a very small "opening" so that virginity is err... quite obvious.
After their first deflowering, they often end up in A&E.
This is not folklore this is absolutely true.
