You need a passport, a non-immigrant visa, documents detailing your current income such as pension etc.
The best you can hope for is an anuually renewable retirement visa or similar, and you will have to demonstrate that you have sufficient income to support yorself. The last time I checked this was 45,000 baht per month ($1200 or 1,000 Euro approx),

or 800,000 baht in a bank account whenever you renew ($21,500 or 17,000 Euro)

If you are working there as say a teacher, then you can get your annual visa organised by your school. You'll need a Tesol certificate for that.

Peanutz is right. And emigrating to Thailand does not mean that you will become "Thai".After a long time, and a lot..lot..lot of papers ,and money, you can stay in Thailand for 1 year, without traveling to the borderline for a stamp in your pasport. As I said..Peanutz is right, go to the nearest Thai Embassy first, and ask there about everything you need. You have to go there anyway, to get a Visa.

Yes, the emigration rules are changing. In fact, to get around this Thai Tourism Authority is offering an Elite card, multiple entry visa for those who apply and can pay the 1,000,000 baht fee that also requires a 40,000 baht per year annual fee. Upgrade for Thai Airways to be able to use their lounges and upgrades in seats, free limo service to and from Suvarnabhumi airport, etc. The main advantage is your visa is expedited, renewal is expedited, and it is good for 5 years, the card is good for a lifetime and can be passed on to your spouse for another 30 years. All members of your family are affected by it. And there are numerous other perks, free golf tee fees, free spa, discounts at malls, etc. Take a look. Otherwise you do have to submit paperwork every 3 months to extend your visa.

There are some conditions to getting the card, no criminal records, no bankruptcies filings, etc. I think they are still working out the bugs to it. Hey if you can afford the fee then you don't have to show income.

Good luck.

Hi, the new panel of ministers had recently changed the emigration rules for foreigners into Thailand. It is best that you check with the Thai Embassy near you for an update. There are different criterias for different type of emigration program, so make your enquiries before you decide.
