Hiya
Im England but I have an Autistic Aspergic high functioning son. We have no help nothing apart from DLA. He does have funding and a stetment of special needs for main stream school. But as to wether this fudning is actually being used on him we have yet to find out as he hasnt received any 1:1 help since he started KS3 in sept. He has had Speech Therapist, Ocupational Therapists, Physio etc but they all discharged him as he was older and the had so many younger kids coming onto their books they couldnt afford the man power or funding to deal with him. Basically come in number 12 your time is up. He only saw them once a year anyway.
Is it me or are there more and more kids being diagnosed with ASD? Is it an epidemic or are the doctors getting lasy with their diagnoses? It took us 6 years of fighting to get a diagnosis for our son!
Go figure!
Be happy
Katey

I have worked in the mental health field with persons with autism for five years and there is very little known about autism anywhere in the world. Ireland is a very modern country with all the best research and just like the US we both end up stumped. It's part of a condition called Aspergers Spectrum Disorder and is so wide ranging and manifests itself in so many different ways that it's VERY difficult to even find common ground among tow individuals with autism. For some good info you can go to the Autism Society of America.

Good Luck.
