I believe that God looks at the heart of the person praying.
Postures are for people.

The real question is: do you think it's important to pray? If God knows everything, He knows how you feel about Him, knows what you want in your life, and even which football team you're rooting for. God is also not enemic on self-esteem so you don't have to tell Him that He's great. As far as sitting, kneeling or standing, a God who has created the entire cosmos probably does not worry about your physical position, what you wear or how you cut your hair. C'mon, God knows it all. . . if there is a God.

My husband and I were discussing this last night. He was raised Catholic (atheist now) and he was recalling a specific discussion in where one of the nuns told his class they could pray with their eyes open, head up, walking down the street. So my guess is the official take is that you can pray anywhere at any time regardless your physical position or whether or not your eyes are open.

I guess it's really all a mater of opinion. Some churches "rise for prayer" others demans you kneel. In the end, I feel prayer is an issue between you and God. If you honestly feel it's appropriate only to pray in in certain position which shows "proper respect", than so be it.

No, of course it does not matter. Some believe it has more impact and shows you're into it whole-heartedly...but honestly, it doesn't matter. Ever heard "Come just as you are"? God wants you to pray to Him, whenever, wherever. Whenever you get the urge, just go for it. No one else even has to know you're praying. As long as you're having a personal moment with Him, talking to Him, that's all that matters.

well no God does not care about your physical position when praying what he most cares about is the communication between you and him, but one thing is true, that God deserves respect when you direct yourself to him, and what better example than christ kneeling down to pray. sometimes at night when im very sleepy i really dont feel like kneeling down to pray, but i know that God deserves respect and so i do it. but dont stop praying for whatever reason because in the end the most important thing is to communicate with him. one thing though it depends on where you find yourself, if youre not in a public place why not kneel down, but if youre in public is not neccesary to kneel the communication is what matters

I don't think it matters as long as you pray... As long as your heart is sincere I don;t think God cares.... Praying on your knees is just a way to show you are coming before the Lord bowing down to him giving him respect that he deserves. You should't bow down to anything else..

no it doesn't matter how you pray as long as you are praying to God. you can stand up, have your eyes open, you can pray in your head, or you can pray out loud
