The martial arts have taught me many things. Learning more effective ways to fight is one of them, but I concentrate on the others more. Now, when I say martial art, I mean the real, traditional, martial arts. Not the westernized sport versions.
The non-combatitive things I have learned are things like respect for all forms of life, peacefulness, calmness of the mind, and it has even opened my eyes that there may be more to fighting than punching and kicking. Im talking about the spiritual side to it. I wont get into it because thats not really what you asked. It has also got me interested in Buddhism and Daoism. Once I did more research on those religions and started practicing them, I did see an improvement in my life. May martial arts have buddhist and daoist elements in them. This is probably the main reason why many westerners (who are mostly either christian or atheist) refuse to believe in some of the spiritual and "mystical" aspects of traditional martial arts.

Things you should get include self confidence, which is why you no longer care what others may think. You should also learn respect for yourself & others. It sounds like you are in a good school & working hard. Congratulations!
The move you describe could be from Aikido, Hapkido or any of several Chinese styles.

I can catch fly's with chop-sticks, avoid swinging spikes used in old cannery's, fight a whole hoard of skeletons with hoods! Also learned to wax cars properly, hammer boards. Some things I have learned are that mercy is for the weak. Pain does not exist in the dojo, and Ice isn't really that hard to break if you really really concentrate as a white belt.

Well for me personally I take Thai Boxing, and it really changed how I precieve things, I'm more self confident when I was before I entered the gym. Well I had great esteem before I started boxing. It just gives you alto of decipline and a mentality that you need to overcome obstacles in society.

it has given me self-confidence to know I can defend myself better if needed. Many people think they are tough and think they can fight, but that's only against people who don't know martial arts. Also, full contact training helps to get the body used to the feel of actual fighting.

It teaches self-discipline and to push yourself in a good way. It also teaches me that you have to be prepared for an attack. You have to practice a lot so if the time comes you need to use it you will do it automatically and correctly.
