I heard if you dream about somebody, that means they're dreaming about you too. I also heard it means their spirit is next to yours. Is that true? If not, is there an explanation is to why you're dreaming about a certain person even if you haven't thought about them in a long time and before you fell asleep, you weren't thinking about them?

Dreams are the subconscious talking to us, often about conflicts that are currently going on in our lives. I don't believe that dreaming of someone you haven't thought of in a long time has any supernatural significance as a rule, though it is possible.

If this happened to you, I'd guess that some situation in your life right now reminds you, probably subconsciously, of this person you dreamed about.

Before going to sleep, ask your dreaming mind to give you another dream to help you better understand the earlier one. Sometimes this works quite well: In addition to learning to remember your dreams, you can also learn to dream specific dreams on demand. If, for instance, you failed to get the message from a dream, you can ask the Dream Sender to give you a dream that will explain the first dream. You will need to set the intention. Say to yourself just before you fall asleep, "My dreams tonight will explain last night's dream. And the first thing I'll do when I wake up is to write down those dreams which will give me the explanation of last night's dream." A very important use of your Dream Sender is to ask for a dream that will give you an answer to a specific question or help in making a certain decision.> from the website http://www.janrainwater.com/htdocs/dreamingp6.htm

I do believe in precognition to some extent because I've had quite a few dreams like this where I heard from the person a few days after the dream. So it could be that, OR it could be that your mind associates certain things with a person from your past. Perhaps a similar situation is in play in your life now and your mind is working it out while you sleep. The person then becomes a representation of a similar situation or feeling going on in your life right now.

As spirits, we actually communicate through the dream level. This means that there is some reason for you to be aware of this person, some lesson you need to learn that will become clear if you meditate on it, or it may mean you need to make contact again for some reason.

They say you are thinking of them subconsciously. The other night I dreamed of my late grandmother and I never dreamed of her before and she died like 15 years ago. I feel that they are with you and watching over you and this is way they can come in contact. Sounds corny but this is what I believe.

It could be God's way of telling you something. You should call that person and see what's up with them. Maybe it's your subconscious wondering what they're up to and thinking about how long it's been since you've seen them. It could be any number of reasons. I'd definitely give that person a call, though.

I am a deep Christian but this sounds ridiculous... Dreams are unexplainable (pretty much) to non-scientific viewers. I usually have dreams about things I don't even think about too... It's very complicated but I give you a thumbs-up for a good question.

Dreams are the product of subconscious brain activity, and having nothing to do with religion.

Dreams are 1/46th of revelation from Allah. So there are truth in them, good dreams come from God while bad dreams come from Satan.

Only way to know your hypothesis would be to ask the other person that you dreamt about. I don't think people here would know that... ;)

It's all in your head and has nothing whatever to do with the other person's thoughts. Perhaps you saw something out of your periph that reminded your subconscious of them.
