I like lots of froth, so I put the ice cream in first and then let the root beer trickle down through the scoops. (Weird, I know, but that's just how I like it.)

But if you're not into that, then fill a tall glass about half to three quarters full of root beer and add two scoops of ice cream. Less froth that way.

Put the Root Beer in first, then the ice cream. If you put the ice cream in first, the Root Beer will have little space to go, and it bubbles UP when mixed with icecream, so it will over flow the glass. Fill a glass 3/4 of the way with Root Beer, then add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, add a straw, and a cherry on top. Yum.
Have your tried 7-UP floats with strawberry ice cream? Mercy! Talk about GOOD!

Many start with the ice cream but if you do the root beer first you don't have the froth as bad that comes from pouring root beer over ice cream.

First the ice cream or it'll get messy.

I stand corrected. My husband, who loves floats, says you must put the root beer in first. He said if you put the ice cream in first, then the root beer will foam so much it takes forever to pour it in. Just don't pour too much root beer in to begin with (allow room for foaming).

Depends on if you want a lot of ice cream or just a little!! If you want lots, it needs to go in first!! If you just want a little, put it in after, just don't fill your glass up all the way!!
