I've been working out for roughly 2 months now, mix of aerobics and weight training. I am slightly more energetic and my endurance has increased slightly, but i've lost all of one pound. I'm discouraged by the amount of weight I've lost. What am i doing wrong, are my workouts not intense enough?

The problem that you are having losing weight is related to your weight training. Building muscle does not help you lose weight as muscle weighs more than fat. You may be looking muscular but you won't lose weight. Weight training is for toning and bulking up. If you can swim and have access to a pool go to it bro and swim like there's no tomorrow. There is no better aerobic and it doesn't wear on your joints and bones.

I was a Navy Corpsman and can tell you that weight training is NOT a weight loss method. Drop the weights and do all the cardio and aerobic you can stand. We used to run in sand for miles in full gear and often we'd puke our guts out. After a while the stamina built up, the puking stopped, we were lean and mean and only used weights to develop our arms.

When you start an exercise program with intense weight lifting, you often gain muscle weight. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you don't see a lot of weight loss. If you have measured your waist, you may notice inches lost. If you're more worried about the pounds, forget weight lifting and focus on aerobic exercise and flexibility first. Participate in a cardio exercise for at least 30 minutes per day, then follow up with 20 minutes of stretching.

While you are losing fat you are also gaining muscle mass which weighs more then fat so you cannot strictly rely on the scale to see how you are doing. Also every so often you need to change your workout so your muscles do not become comfortable with the stress you are putting them under. Try different exercises every 3 weeks or so. Also make sure you are doing enough cardio, under 20 minutes is a waste of time.

Don't use the scale as a tool of measure so much as how your clothes fit. Do they fit you better? By now, some of them should be getting quite loose on you if you are losing fat but replacing it with muscle, which is much leaner than fat. 1lb of muscle takes up much less space then 1lb of fat.

You should also try modifying your diet. All the exercise in the world won't help if you are eating a lot of junk or fatty food.

Lower your salt intake. Read labels. Anything over 200 mg should not be consumed. Salt retains water. You don't want to retain water. you want to replenish it by more water. Drink a lot of water. This is the key to recycling your system and making sure the toxins all sweat out. In the process, you are then able to lose the fat.

You should check your body mass index. That will be a true indication as to whether or not you are gaining muscle. Forget about the scale. Just keep up the work-outs, but push it up a notch and make it harder. Other wise you will get in a rut and not see any results.

Your workouts are fine. Try eating more fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Weight loss doesn't happen overnight. It depends on your individual body chemistry and metabolism. If you're worried, you could talk to your doctor.

And for God's sake don't take a weight-loss pill.

You're doing just fine. The fat is melting off, but it is being replaced by muscle- which is denser and heavier.

Good luck! And keep it up!
