go see an orthopedic surgeon immediately-sounds like you may have a ruptured disc-I had back sugery 20 years ago and I've had bouts of severe sciatic pain since-but it depends on your weight-overweight makes any back problem 50 times worse than if you are slender-most back surgery today for discs is done by laser which is alot less invasion than when I had it-go to best surgeon you can find even if it means travelling to larger city. there are crappy surgeons and I've seen people's lives ruined by poor surgery so do your homework-for pain the best thing I have found is lidocaine patches made by endo pharmaceuticals-they are really good and no pain med dependence issues such as with vicodin which isn't that great at least for me-also cortisone epidurals in the spine but I hate getting them-again only let the best do an epidural as they can be dangerous-good luck

The pain that you are experiencing is probably "sciatica"due to a protruding disc in the lumbar region.Heat is not advised for this complaint as it causes the soft tissue,ie the disc,to expand even more, cold is better along with "gentle excersise".Swimming is a very good excersise as is walking in water.Do see a doctor for a diagnosis. If you see a doctor, the advice always given is,bed rest,I have never found this to be a great help since it tends to weaken the muscles and prolonging the recovery time.If possible try to avoid painkillers, the pain is there to tell what you can do and what you can't do.
I hope this will be of some help.

yes, see a doctor. i dont know your age so i cant understand totally why its happening.
also u should always sit up straight. i had this issue due to 4 problems:
1) my car seat made my back curve and caused big pains later on in the day. to fix that is very small task - adjust the seat so it leans more forward or so u are positioned vertically up. your lower back should be forced to be straight
2) u sit by the computer on a bad chair , i had a wooden chair and it killed my lower back so i bought a proper one and keep my back straight and its fine now. small price to pay for the health of my back.
3) u have lifted heavy goods and its placed strain on your lower body
4) u r doing some incorrect exercising. ice and heat may help a bit but the pains will return if u dont sort out the cause of the issue.

You need to pay a visit to doctor ASAP.
The alternative is to go to an acupuncture.
If they do it right, you will feel much better after 2-3 visits. The normal cycle is 8-10 visits. Depend how long you have had this pain and how serious it is, you may need more than 1 cycle of treatment. Acupuncture is very good for pain.

DO NOT GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR! Go to your family doc and get reffered to a local Back Orthopedist, I have been threw the Back stuff myself for three years now. And I have pain down my left leg, right leg sounds weird? usually it means your psyiatic nerve is being affected if pain goes down your left leg, which means your discs are usually bulging out into the nervs, like mine. Heat and Ice might help, both, but usually with Psyatic nerve stuff niether will work. Good luck.

Don't listen the the post above me. Definitely do go see a chiropractor especially if your MD recommends surgery a recent study I found/was given to me states the at 4,7, 10 years the cases of back pain treated with surgery, were no better than those treated with chiropractic care. So if you want to avoid surgery go to a chiropractor. Plus you won't have to pay the thousands of dollars for surgery. The burning pain is indicative of a nerve problem. you should definitely have it looked at.

There is always a tendency to rely on something of a palliative nature rather than going to the cause and treating that. This is the routine symptom presenting into chiropractors offices..Usually after they have been everywhere else. Only headache is more frequently attended. If surgery is needed, they will know to whom you should be referred.

Chiropracter will put you into alighnment. Apply cold pack on 20 minutes, off 40 to reduce swelling. Pain you feel is a pinched nerve.

Go to the doctor! Your back shouldn't hurt that bad. Do cold followed by heat. Cold numbs the pain, and heat relaxes the muscles.
