I do not oppose gay/lesbian marriage at all--but let me try to answer this question. This argument by the courts that there is a legitimate governement interest in treating gay/lesbian realtionships different that hetro marriages is not grounded in reality. They argue the purpose of marriage is procreation of children. The real fact is that many such marriages do have children whether by adoption, a prior hetro relationship, or artificial insmemination. Besides almost half of the children are born of realtionship that does not have any type of govenrment blessing.
It is important to seperate the civil and religious aspect. Any religion has the right to think any way they want to about this and not perform same sex marriage.
But civilly and legally all a marriage is, is a civil union. Same sex relationships and families do exist--whether some people like it or not. They have children and own property. It is stupid to deny the reality. They should be recognized as some type of legal entity.
Since we love to play word games these days I guess if people want to call them civil unions that is fine.\

You can still be parents and raising your children (even if they don't come from your loins); there's always adoption...
Okay...I know that doesn't answer your question...and I'm not one that uses reproduction for that argument (no on gay marriage).
Even if you don't want to hear it...
Sex outside of marriage is fornication. Marriage is for procreation yes...sex is also to bond the married couple, kind of like glue...and sex is also to make one another feel good, it strengthens intimacy.
I must ask (as I have asked before)...
Why do people practicing the homosexual lifestyle want to get married? ((Marriage is a religious institution). In every religion, folks get married. It has always (and you can check history on this one) been one man and one woman.
Most religions don't invite people that practice the homosexual lifestyle (unless they are giving it up) into their "religion." Most all religions believe it to be a sin and therefore not welcome. (As in, practicing sinners, not those that have chosen to walk way from their sinful lives to start fresh.)
Now again, I ask you...why do practicing homosexuals want to get "married?" Is it for the benefits? That can't be it; they already have benefits. Could it be for decision making for hospitals stays, DNR orders, wills and whom the kids go to, if something happen? That can't be it that paperwork is sold in Office Max, Office Depot, Staples and most stationary stores. Fill it out, sign it, have it notarized and it is a legal, binding document.
This is never a popular answer that fact is...truth rarely is...
Before you label me...I love everyone. What you do in your bedroom is your own business. When you want to re-write history and change the meaning of what marriage is (one man and one woman). I say enough is enough.

If you say that marriage should be the union of two people regardless of sex, the question comes up, why two ? If marriage is not defined as between one man and one woman, it is also not defined as between one man three women and a donkey. How about six women and four billy-goats.
Families were much more solid, lasted way longer, children were more secure, family life had meaning when a family always meant one man one woman and their children.

Well marriage isn't ALL about reproduction, it's about uniting two people (whether it be same sex or not), and for gays it's like declaring, "HA! Take that you straight silly-gooses!". Why do you think women that can't give birth get married? Sexless marriages don't go far, though. Just think about it.

i know somewhat some gay and lesbian couples who've very eye-catching, happy and healthful babies. many of the gay couples accompanied, in spite of the undeniable fact that one had babies from a prior heterosexual marriage. interior the lesbian relationships, one gave delivery to their own babies by way of synthetic insemination, and then had the non-organic and organic determine undertake the youngsters, merely like a stepparent could. In NJ, I heard a pair of lesbian couple who each had a baby by way of a similar donor and flow-accompanied the youngsters. those babies have come to no injury by way of being component of non-classic families - i won't probably see that having a baby raised in poverty by way of a drug-addicted organic and organic mom who can't cope with the 4 babies she already has could be greater effective than having her raised by way of 2 loving, healthful, imaginative, relatively nicely-off gay men. turn area of the argument - my husband and that i haven't any babies and specific won't have any, and we knew it going into the marriage. Does that propose my marriage is invalid? ought to we require that a pair tutor their fertility (interior the only way obtainable) by way of getting pregnant till now they get married? (And does no longer that proposition omit nicely?)

Gay people can still get pregnant, many of them do, just not with each other. The reproduction argument is such bull.
