check out the ears like the other suggestions said, but also check the folds of its skin. shar-pei's can get bacterial infections in the folds.
baths should really be given weekly and after a bath you should pay close attentions to drying the insides of the folds and use just a little talc powder to keep it dry.
brushing their coat often (daily) will help create much needed skin oils, to keep the skin healthy.

Shar-peis ALWAYS smell. Many breeders I know bathe them with Murphy's Oil Soap. They claim that it helps control the odor longer. Also they use baby wipes in the wrinkles on the face TWICE daily. Too much work for me.

My son and daughter in law are proud parents of two Shar-pei's. This breed has a predisposition to ear wax build up and infection. That is when "Bostrom" and "Bo" have a foul odor.

Give it a bath or take it to the vet. My dog had a ear ache and he smelled bad it's just a dog thing. But I would try giving it a bath like 3 times a day and if that doesn't work I would take it to the vet.Good Luck!

I think it best to have your dog looked at by your vet to be diagnosed and treated properly. Sharpeis are prone to skin and ear problems, and most need veterinary treatment.
