Sure, anyone that is a citizen of the US and over the age of 35 can run for President. Do I think he/she will win? Not at this time, America is too caught up in the religion thing to think (and vote) beyond the 'box'.

The Constitution states that we have freedom of religion.
So yes....it is ok if an Atheist runs for President.

Yeah- I hope I can see it in my lifetime too! It would be interesting to see the religious community lose some of its vicegrip on society- and hopefully some of our practices would improve.

A president that bases decisions on logic rather than fear for some god would be an amazing leader.

They can run, but I doubt they'll win. No matter how far we have come away from religion, there's something about the human spirit that clinges to the belief of a supreme being. It brings comfort. Good luck to the atheist, but they won't win!

Yep - we've had atheist and deist presidents. Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln...People just didn't know it. The sudden need for a politician to claim religion is a relatively new phenomenon.

Christians would choose an evil man who pretends to be a Christian and talks like one over a good, decent person who respects the voters enough to tell them he/she is an atheist.

Of course, it's all right, as long as he or she is old enough, born in the US, not a felon, etc. I'm not sure some of the "atheists" who ask questions on this site would get my vote, but that's also true of some others as well.

I think you're just trying to get us riled up, now.

But, yes, it is okay if an Atheist runs for President.

I am amazed at the number of idiots who say they won't vote for an athiest--retards like them put bush in the office, and will most likely be the death of this country

If he had a positive IQ he would make a better president than Bush.
