There is a sort of exercise I remember seeing for that. What you do is stand with your back against the wall. And try to straighten it until as much of your back as possible touches it.
Also is your mattress giving you proper support when you sleep? What about your chairs? I've seen some chairs that actually encourage bad posture.
And when you go in for a check-up, ask your doctor to check for scoliosis.
Good luck!

First, you need to be screened for Scoliosis......a curvature of the spine.
I had the same problem. Here is what a physical therapist and my doctor had me do.
1. Get 2 towels (not flimsy little ones though) and fold them in half longways. Then roll them up...separately not together.
2. Lie down on the floor not a mattress. You need a good firm surface.
3. Place one of the towels under your neck and place the other under the small of your back.
4. Lie there for about 10-15 minutes every day.
Also, try some stretching exercises for your back. Everyday.

Look up Alexander Technique. This is a fantastic way of improving your posture. It is difficult to master but you will gain massive improvements in how you walk, sit and general awareness.
It is very popular with acting training and helping physical dynamics onstage.
Hope this helps

go to a chiropractor. My friend has a really bad back and has been told for years he needs surgery. But he has been going to a chiropractor and feels much better every time he goes. No harm in trying. The chiropractor says everyone should go every two years or so like the dentist. (You should go to the dentist more often) OK goodbye I have babbled on long enough.

LOL - that's exactly what I was going to say. heh. It will help, but try sleeping on your back, not your side. Don't let your shoulders "bowl" in, keep them back. Also - think about seeing a chiropractor for correction - then a masseuse every 3-6 mo. or so, for maintaining. Massage's do wonders for your back. Good luck.

Maybe you should go excercise instead of being on the computer. Annnndddd the best thing for you is to sit up straight, thats a no-brainer. You knew it all along.

get one of those giant excercise balls. Sit on it everyday for longer and longer periods of time. Sitting on that forces you to maintain good posture to keep balance at the same time it will strengthen your abs and back. Good luck!

THIS MAY SOUND SILLY, BUT THEY SAY WHEN YOU ARE WALKING AROUND THE HOUSE, TO PUT A BOOK ON YOUR HEAD, AND TRY WALKING AROUND THE HOUSE, ALSO WHEN YOU SIT DOWN THINK ABOUT THE WAY YOU ARE SITTING, AND MAKE SURE TO SIT UP STRAIGHT, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR MUSCLES BACK IN WORKING CONDITION,, SO BUY SITING UP STRAIGHT SHOULD HELP YOU, AND ALSO WALKING AROUND THE HOUSE WITH THE BOOK ON YOUR HEAD.

Stand agains the wall and stretch as high up as you can.
Hold a broomstick behind your back, under your arms.
Sit comfortably, take a warm bath and don't sit in one place for too long.

fold a towel 3 times and place it at your lower back when sitting and more so when driving.you will notice the difference .chairs all seem to be of an inferior design to cut costs and maximise profit
