A metaphor is a peice of figurative language that says the subject of a sentence is something different. Unlike a simile, it doesn't use like or as. Here are some exapmples:
My room is a pigsty.
She is a snake.

A metaphor is when a figure of speech or word is substituted for another. For example instead of saying that some one was very fast you would say "he was a whirlwind". This is as opposed to a simile where you say that something is like something else or similar in that case an example would be "he ran like a gazelle".

a metaphor is when you say something IS like something else, versus a simile when you say something is LIKE something else.

Rocky Balboa IS a Tiger. Hunger IS a wild beast. Love IS a butterfly, Love IS a rose vs. Love is LIKE a rose. or whatever. etc. Metaphors.

I'm hungry LIKE the wolf; it's as cold AS a witch's butt; Similes.

its when u compare 2 things without using the words 'like' or 'as' otherwise, it would be a similie.
