Never fear! There are *always* substitutions available! :o) Try dark corn syrup or maple syrup (works well in gingerbread cookies). Honey and brown sugar (Substitute 1.5 cups brown sugar for every 1 cup molasses) can also be used.
The overall flavor will be changed just a little, but the consistency will remain the same. Good luck with your baking!

I tried using various substitutes, but came to the conclusion that molasses is quite a unique ingredient. Also, I found out that they have them in any supermarket. They work the best really. I made gingerbread with it for the first time this week and it was so much better than the ones I made before with the substitutes!

Not really. Molasses is pretty unique in taste and texture. You could use dark corn syrup in a pinch, but the flavor will be off.

No reason why you shouldn't use black treacle. Though perhaps you should buy a jar of molasses and try the genuine article. I regularly eat a teaspoonful as it is packed with minerals and vitamins and is very good for you. It's similar in taste to black treacle, though stronger and has a very slight bitterness which is quite pleasant.

You can use a thick syrup made up from dark brown sugar (2 parts) and water (1 part). Disolve sugar in warm to hot water whisking until sugar has melted totally.
