Limbo was actually a teaching that was thwarted. It was originally meant as the place that souls waited between heaven and hell before Christs death. It was twisted and wrongly used. Purgatory is a place where we Catholics believe a soul goes first to be cleansed and beautified before entering Heaven. We call it the soul's hospital. Those in it are going to heaven.

Oh, you cute little critter. Limbo (now renounced) was a state of being, not inhereting the fullness of heavenly life. It was not a place. Purgatory is a place, between heaven and hell.
