The Old Testiment gives the example of two bears coming from a mountain and ripping apart 75 children for being disrespectful. Given the horrible nature of the punishement, how could anyone believe in, much less worship, such a God?

I had to check that scripture, cause the number seemed too many. It's at 2 Kings 2 23-24 and it was 42 children killed. This account may seem cruel to some, but this wasn't merely disrespect that these kids were doing. In fact they were persecuting Jehovah's anointed servant so that Elisha called down evil upon them. Later on, he resurrected the son of a widow, so Elisha also wasn't coldhearted , but both instances were accomplished from the holy spirit of God.

God didn’t confine His wrath to the Canaanites, or to those mentioned in Revelation. He proclaimed the death sentence upon the whole of humanity. We will all die because we have broken God’s Law. Every one of us is waiting on death row. Instead of standing in moral judgment over Almighty God, we need to judge ourselves according to the Law of God. We will find that we have a multitude of sins and therefore are deserving of punishment. Yet God, out of love, paid the penalty for our sin so we would not have to.

Your question demonstrates how tenaciously, how completely, how aggressively, how radically men run from God, as Paul says in Romans 1:18-32. So inbred is man's hostility and rebellion against God that they would rather risk their eternal destiny on idiocy than come to their senses and bend their knee in the face of a gracious but omnipotent creator.

An omnipotent, omniscient, all-loving God. You neither know what's in a man's (humans) heart nor the reason for God's love. What you do know is that God IS love. Therefore everything God does IS love. We mere fallen humans can't imagine the full completeness of God's being.

Because He is greater than I am, and He is our Creator. Why is it so hard to be respectful of a God who has given you so much in life, starting with your life? There is absolutely nothing that is being made in this world, be it cars, houses, oil, money etc and that includes having babies, "creating life", that is not being done with out God allowing it.

Do you own a car, have a job, a house or at least a place to live, money, kids, and you obviously have access to a computer...what ever you have in life, all of those things belong to God. If those things belonged to you, then why can't you take them with you when you die? You can't even take you body with you when you die. It's not yours either.

Nothing belongs to us in this world, but what we do have, has been placed in our care by God Himself, So before you start bashing God for things that happened, that had nothing to do with you... Thank Him for what you do have, because that kind of talk can have it taken from you by God.

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

A god invented by indecent people, and supported for 2000 years by decent victims.

I guess it comes down to staying on God's good side as much as possible.

Wow, I missed that. What verse is it? That's terrible. You have to remember, though, that the OT is all about fear.

those were two hungry bears!

I guess it's part of the fear/control mechanism.
